"Commentators" in the cartoon[edit]

My casual impression is that the man sitting cranking the music box is John Quincy Adams and the man walking in from the left is John C. Calhoun, with Henry Clay standing on the right of course. Some expert please look into this and improve the caption if I am correct. Thanks. CountMacula (talk) 08:15, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops maybe[edit]

I may be mistaken in my earlier belief that Calhoun opposed tariff. CountMacula (talk) 08:29, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The old political cartoon makes the article biased against the American System.72.201.19.165 (talk) 09:08, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Ran counter to federalism"[edit]

In what sense? This is misleading because the founder of the Federalists, Hamilton, created the ideas behind the system in the Report on Manufactures. It ran counter to the arguments of states' rights (especially, due to its effects, of Southern states) not federalism per se.
