Taxobox image[edit]

WP:TX says "Use this [image2] sparingly, and only when the article is long enough and it makes sense to include the second image here and not later in the article. Camel is a good example (a genus with two well-known representatives)." Consequently, I replaced the two images in the taxobox with a single image that shows both male and female, even though this image is a bit lower in resolution than Image:American Wigeon.jpg and much lower than Image:Anas-americana-004.jpg, a featured image. Since the new image, Image:Anas americana 03828.JPG, is mine, I'd like to know if the other editors agree. Walter Siegmund (talk) 21:03, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sexually dimorphic species like this need two images. But since one image now has both, then there is only a need for one image, not two. Any further images need to be justified by arguments founded on undeniable biology, for example molt (consider the Long-tailed Duck), age (many larids exhibit wildly different appearances as they age), social/mating/foraging behaviors, and so on. And it goes without saying that such images need to be directly commented on by in-article text derived from the published literature. So I have removed all the gratuitous imagery here, as they contribute zero further information. I strongly encourage other editors to be equally ruthless in related articles. mdf 13:37, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huh ?[edit]

"The American Wigeon, also American Widgeon or Baldpate, (Anas americana) is a species of wigeon in the dabbling duck genus Anas. If this is split up, all wigeons will go into their old genus Mareca again."

-- What does it mean that they will go into their old genus again if "this" is split up ? And what is "this" ?76.113.104.58 (talk) 03:19, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
