Honours[edit]

In English we do not say Spanish League or Spanish Cup or even Spanish Super Cup. But we call them La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de Espana. Also when watching a football game from Spain in the English language commentators, on Sky Sports, ESPN, BBC, ITV, FSC, Gol TV, etc..., refer to these competitions by their correct names. Therefore I ask you keep my revision of the honours section. Rupert1904 (talk) 16:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Early years[edit]

Could we have a little more on his early bio. please. The world now wants to know! RashersTierney (talk) 21:28, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

sobriquets[edit]

I am Spanish and a huge football fan (more specifically a supporter of FC Barcelona), and I can say that absolutely nobody calls Iniesta "el Anti-Galáctico", "Cerebro" or "El Caballero Pálido" (and even about the first one, "El ilusionista", I wouldn't be very sure). I understand this is a football-related article and usually they are a total mess (particularly regarding made up nicknames), but this is going too far, as it seems that info was just written by some Spanish fanboy who wanted to leave his footprint in Iniesta's article. If you notice, the reference for "El Caballero Pálido" comes from an Italian article which calls Iniesta "that pale knight from Fuentealbilla...etc, etc", but every other single reference to Iniesta as "pale knight" you can find in Google si simply quoting that single Italian article from that single day. That would be like reading that Van Bommel played like a clumsy thug in the finals, and claiming "clumsy thug" must be then Van Bommel's new nickname. --Javialacarga (talk) 19:07, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Javialacarga. However, it's still a nickname. Also, I've just made a quick search in Google and there are more sources calling him the Pale Knight besides the link in the article, for example Dayly Mail 21 July, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Infinauta (talkcontribs) 21:09, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Which is a sample of just how untruthful bad press can be, as -according to this article- 'El caballero pálido' is 'long lived nickname from Spanish press', and I can tell you that simply nobody calls him that way. I mean, I live here and I read Spanish sports media. I should know, I think. Someone (that article's author) is telling me one of my favourite players is usually called by a nickname in my country, and I had never heard it in my life before the World Cup final match? I don't think so.
But, as I said, this is a footballer's page...what's the point in trying to make a little sense of it, I guess... --Javialacarga (talk) 13:25, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how 'Ilusionista' might mean 'dreamer'. As a spanish speaker, I never thought 'Ilusionista' meant someone who dreams, but someone who makes illusions, so someone who can, edit it, please.

Number of assists?[edit]

It seems absurd that for a player that is characterized by his passes that his assists are not listed. Here is a link with the apropiate info. Assist are (unsurprisely) under the letter A

This link lists assists. In fact, it seems to be a good reference for assists, goals, etc in different competitions. Another reference: Marca also lists assists for players each season of the Liga, for Iniesta's statistics 2011-2012 see marca. Ben T/C 19:04, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I made a start with assists. I didn't find any statistics on his time in the second team. Therefore, I filled the stats there with question marks. I got tired after a while, however, I decided to fill at least the columns. I put zeros everywhere so there's a template at least. If anybody wants to chip in, be my guest. Ana Ortiz[edit]

Is Andrés Iniesta's wife the actress in ugly betty Ana Ortiz or a different person? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Navhus (talkcontribs) 06:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No she is not the actress from "Ugly Betty" but another Ana Ortiz. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.108.69.221 (talk) 13:09, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Some argue that Barcelona actually did win the league in 2007..."[edit]

Hi!

Here is what is written in the intro right now:

Some argue that Barcelona actually did win the league in 2007. Barcelona drew level on points with Real Madrid and had a better goal difference, which is what most leagues are settled on in the event of an equal points tally. Instead, Madrid were awarded the league championship for the combined 2-Game head-to-head result between the sides.

Well who argues that? And in fact you can not argue that because there is only one winner.

I think this piece should be removed. --IRISZOOM (talk) 18:21, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

International goals[edit]

There is confusion regarding a goal scored in 2 June 2007 against Latvia. Xavi shooted, the ball deflected on Iniesta and looped over the Latvia goalkeeper. Uefa gives the goal to Xavi[1] but some websites count the goal to Iniesta's total. So as of 24 June 2013, Iniesta have scored 10 international goals and not 11. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saizo7 (talkcontribs) 09:57, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Guardian Ranking[edit]

I think we should include in the lead that the Guardian ranked him as the 5th best footballer in the world [1], a number of other pages for players on this list include this information. It is a reliable list, and provides insight to who is viewed as better or worse than him on the pitch. Adamh4 (talk) 21:55, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
