I don't know what type of piston-cylinder press can take a 500mm experiment:-O My experiments were in a capsule of 2.3mm diameter and up to 5 mm long(outer measures, inside is ofcourse smaller), the capsules can get bigger, usually if you need multiple layers to get the right oxidation state for the experiments. The furnace types I have seen do not exceed 4cm in length, and you do not want your experiments to be more than a fraction of this length to prevent huge temperature gradients.Grissini (talk) 12:54, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Grissini[reply]
