Sorry for not signing, but I happen to be Catholic, and this is NOT what the Church teaches about the dignity of women. I am not informed enough about the North of Ireland to know what to write, but I can tell you this is wrong "At a time when the Catholic Church was viewed as a significant player in the Northern Ireland conflict, it became necessary that Church officials offer their opinions on the women and their unconventional activism. Like conventional Irish society, the Catholic Church viewed women as necessarily and naturally "weaker" than their male counterparts and, as a result of this weakness, unfit for life within prison walls. In addition, the Church advocated for the proper placement of women within the home where they were to care for their children and their husbands. Clearly, their detainment at Armagh removed these women from their homes, a travesty according to the Church, and one which, should the British government have any sense of humanity, could only be solved with the women's release from prison." 172.242.45.219 (talk) 05:26, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As for this sentence below, I can't figure out a template that would suit this; I looked for a "for how long?" template, but to no avail. I don't think "quite a while" is specific enough.

"While the women of Armagh prison had been operating under a "no work" protest for quite a while to no avail, the events of 7 February 1980 served as a catalyst which would escalate their protest into a "dirty" one." Rexlikescheese (talk) 15:45, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements Required[edit]

I've tidied up the English and removed many of the essay-like comments in this article. The sections in Public Opinion still need editing to provide a balanced overview; the Prison Conditions section also needs improvement. Some recent work such as https://doi.org/10.1080/13619462.2017.1401473, https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1057/9781137315472_4 and https://etd.ohiolink.edu/!etd.send_file?accession=ouhonors1461339256&disposition=inline could also be referenced Xcia0069 (talk) 18:38, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
