Discussion[edit]

discussion here please before surgery moza 12:45, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I had thought my edit summary was clear enough. In hindsight, it would have been better to to explain my reasons for the deletions more fully here. I removed two external links, Map of Mangere Mountain and Map of Mount Eden, and an "Internal links" section listing links to Mount Eden and Mangere Mountain, all recently added by Mozasaur.
Since Mount Eden and Mangere Mountain are part of the Auckland Volcanic Field category, and the full category is only a click away, I saw no point in listing just two of the category members here. However I would support adding a full list of the volcanoes in the field, including those we don't have articles for yet, because this adds some information beyond what the category provides.
The maps were of the Mt Eden and Mangere suburbs, not of the corresponding volcanoes, so the title of at least the Mangere map was misleading. And while part of Mt Eden (the volcano) was shown in the upper right corner of the Mt Eden map, the Mangere map did not show Mangere Mountain at all. So even if we retitled these links, I didn't feel they would be relevant to this article. (They might be useful additions to the articles for those suburbs, though.) -- Avenue 23:46, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've now added a list of volcanoes in the field. -- Avenue 15:47, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Likelihood of new eruptions[edit]

I heard it bandied about on the radio and in the breakroom that the estimated likelihood for another eruption in the field is about 1 in 500-1000 years. Anyone got a cite for that? MadMaxDog 05:50, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is not exactly an estimate, but the Contingency Plan for the Auckland Volcanic Field says that "the return period between past events has ranged from hundreds to thousands of years." (page 4) -- Avenue 08:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of map requested[edit]

Someone has requested that the map at the top of this article be deleted. If you have an opinion on this, please comment here in the next 7 days. -- Avenue 01:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Navbox[edit]

This topic would lend itself to a navbox. Any idea how to group the volcanoes? Schwede66 17:17, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Schwede66: I would be happy to help with this if I can. Would simple north, east, south, and west divisions (with a separate line, perhaps, for island volcanoes) be appropriate? — Hugh 02:11, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hl: I've started a navbox at User:Schwede66/sandbox. I take it you know something about the subject area, and which one would go where. Have a go at completing it and we can then move it into template space. Adding it to individual articles is easiest done by AutoWikiBrowser; happy to do so when it's all done. Any questions, please ask. Schwede66 05:28, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: I've done this, and changed to a different photo. What do you think? — Hugh 23:21, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hl: The links for the group names aren't right (the CBD is much too tight; West Auckland is an electorate). Once that's sorted, I'll move it. Schwede66 23:25, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Schwede66: I can't find appropriate articles; I'll remove the links. — Hugh 23:31, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. Now at Template:Auckland volcanic field. Schwede66 00:19, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

There is a rendering bug as of late 2022 in the software engine that prepares a pgn format thumbnail of maps to reduce server load. If a so rendered map does not show expected detail just slightly change the default size of image in pixels and all should be well. ie if intended width 250, change to 249.
