Merger not appropriate[edit]

On 20 December 2006, it was suggested that merger of Hadean and Azoic be considered. After discussion, it was agreed that separate articles are more appropriate. See discussion Talk:Hadean#Azoic. Adams[edit]

If you search the source for "Adams" with "Adams Azoic" you find mention of C. B. Adams. Perhaps this is Charles Baker Adams. (SEWilco 07:17, 29 December 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Azoic etymology?[edit]

Isn't "azoic" from the word parts (yes, from Greek) a- (not) and zoe (life), not zoo (animal)? Correct me if I'm wrong. Somnia0 06:12, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Somnia[reply]

I suggest that we merge this article with the Hadean eon article[edit]

That might be a good idea; certainly much better than associating it with the Archeozoic or Archean eons.

I strongly DISPUTE, however, that the term "Azoic" met its demise a century ago!

I remember reading many, many earth-science and geological textbooks and articles (both American/ U.S. and British Commonwealth) in the LATE 20th century which still employed the terms "Azoic era" or "Azoic eon." Back then, before the internet and WWW, both publishers and many science writers were quite conservative in embracing new terms and labels.

Also, I would like to see a more extensive, elaborate, geologic, etymological, linguistic, and history-of-science explanation as to WHY the term was rejected by scientists in favor of Hadean (and perhaps the Archean/ Archeozoic eons).
