Talk:Azoth

Azoth is a very mysterious element, and I say it is mysterious because 99.999% of humanity has never ever experienced it. So, we have no idea about Azoth, practically speaking, but there are many theories, there are many beliefs about it. There are hundreds and thousands of books about Azoth. You may be thinking you have been studying religion a long time but do not remember seeing anything about Azoth.

Haunting Ground[edit]

azoth? i wanted to look up this woed to see if it really existed. iguess so. i first came of the word azoth by the video game Haunting Ground and the defintion gose un remarkibly w/ the whole story line of the game. it's incredible. in the game it is refered to as the "essence of life" and i have come to wonder if it is true. if any one else thinks so... please, contribute to this page and make the word azoth a weel known, defintion. thanx!

I'm sure there are probably some more historical occult/alchemic uses for the term than what I added, which I could try to find again. I guess you're lucky I added this entry when I did, previously it was just a redirect to the element Mercury, which doesn't do much for describing the word's meaning as it is. Popular culture[edit]

If the article ever becomes large enough to warrant such a trivia section, this is the trivia that was removed from a previous edit;

An azoth is a sword-like energy weapon in The Book of the Long Sun series by Gene Wolfe.
Azoth is also used in the video game Haunting Ground. The game has components of alchemy, horror, and strategy. The main character (Fiona Belli) is the wielder of the Azoth, and is chased by various characters who want to extract the Azoth within her, all for several different, but none the less selfish, reasons. It is referred to as the "essence of life" and also has some things to do with the God Stone and the staff of Caduceus. Alchemy is a big part in this game.
In the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, Azoth is the name of a Level 4 dagger-type weapon that can only be equipped by Alchemists and has the ability of transforming a regular monster into another kind of monster.
In the video game Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny, Azoth is the name of a particular kind of alchemical creation: a magical, sentient sword that holds the power to potentially destroy anything. The game's hero, Felt, wields the benevolent Azure Azoth, while the villain Chaos wields the malevolent Crimson Azoth. In the Japanese version of the game, Felt's sword was named the Shinso (or "ancestral") Azoth.
In the video game Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Azoth is the name of a spell used by Ezel Berbier which causes the status effect Sleep on all enemy characters.
In the murder mystery Tokyo Zodiac Murders, Azoth is the name of the 'supreme woman' supposedly created by Heikichi Umezawa just before he was murdered. According to his suicide note, Azoth was allegedly made from the dismembered bodies of his nieces whom he also murdered.
Azoth is the dagger in Fate/Stay Night which is given to a magician once they graduate from the magic academy. In the anime Kotomine Kirie gives Tohsaka the Azoth dagger after she graduates from the magic academy 10 years before the 5th Holy Grail war. Later Tohsaka gives Emiya Shirou Azoth with which he kills Kotomine with.
In the roleplaying game Promethean: The Created, Azoth is a mystical force that motivates the eponymous Prometheans, a race of artificial beings striving to become fully human.
In the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, a variation of the Caduceus, the symbol for azoth, is seen on the main character, Edward Elric's clothing, and on his brother's (Alphonse Elric) armor, and in Dante's house. The brothers' main goal throughout the series is to find the Philosopher's Stone.

It seems like a lot of this information, but not all of it, has been added into the "In popular culture" section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.20.36.63 (talk) 00:12, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A curiosity: Azot = Nitrogen in Slavic languages[edit]

In Slavic languages like Russian, Polish, Serbian etc. Azot is the name for Nitrogen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.252.126.73 (talk) 22:50, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

The messenger of the god's walking stick: Caduceus, and its representative nature to the god's number eight[edit]

After the word Caduceus in the article I added, then removed: "(insinuative of the number eight, a number considered to be mercurial to hermeticists & qabalahists. The eight glyph's condition of being a rotated infinity having been posited to occult practitioners as the purest manner of conceiving the symbolism with its best attributes in mind, making it ultimately just the traveler god's way to the infinite or absolute principle by extension)", the references exist but the page doesn't seem to warrant the depth of later history, though deserves in my opinion to be reiterated here to help an interested party new to occultism. Occultism being a synthesis that is sometimes hard to decipher the line at which synthesis: which is a violation of terms in the NPOV spirit of Wikipedia maintains, and where the rich all connecting symbolism from one author or another in interest on the occult may make such notable or not becomes nebulous and hazy. Authorities such as Aleister Crowley help vastly when citing (even if he would agree and may have instances that could confirm his view of the above as such, it becomes so sweeping a table of correspondence that the interested party reading this could glean as much with only a minor initiation into the apparent instances of whichever series of symbolism ever being, as a context for occult wisdom, where-ever one sees a coincidence on the matter and is so perceived by the observer as the truth in the meaning of the magic word or term (its numeric value in gematria and what language or letter character values were used and to what one wants to relate it and by what rules of numerology, etc. etc) Though a valuable history of the term Azoth as appreciated by occult or alchemist authors and their properties given of it would be of much importance to an article such as this and may, if accrued in content enough, eventually yield the inclusion of information such as my above omitted information, a sensible addition of the alchemist's philosophy's tradition on into early modern era secret fraternal societies (as would be Crowley's first and foremost understanding and use of the term, esp. in his early work before extensive travel of the east and affection for and by the eastern tradition of cultures and their current mysteries revealed to him on the matter). Definition[edit]

The following definition is taken from A Lexicon of Alchemy by Martin Rulandis, pub 1612, A E Waite translation, 1893. AZOTH - is Quicksilver, drawn out of any metallic body and properly the corporeal Mercury, the Mercury of the metallic body. With Paracelsus especially, it is the universal medicine, to which all things are alike , uncovering every species of substance and imparting an immense strength, and catholic central virtue. It includes in itself all other medicines as well as the first principle of all other substances, their accidents excluded. Enclosed in the pommel of a sword, great exploits shall be performed by the wearer into whatever place he goes. For the rest, Quicksilver is extracted out of metal. But Theophrastus (i.e. Paracelsus) celebrates one Azoth for its eminent medicinal virtue. Some think it to be the philosophical stone. Azoth is drawn from bodies by means of Mercury and is called a living spirit, a spirit endowed with a soul, our Water, Vinegar. Mary of Egypt says: When the Laton is whitened it is called Azoth. Therefore men say Azoth whitens the Laton, then the Laton again whitens other things and when again red, it re-assumes the name of Laton. Gebir says Azoth is the Mercury which is drawn from substances through the Mercury of the Philosophers. Therefore it is, and it becomes, an elixir, i.e. a substance dissolved in Mercurial Water. It is called in arabic Azoth, a dissolved silver; it is also the metallic earth in the mines and is called Vitrified or Vitre-coloured Azoth. It is white and shining, but red internally; also it is black and green to look at, and it has a colour like a poisonous earth. It is nearly related to the metals.

Very roughly Laton is an intermediate state of blackness in the early stages of the Alchemical Workings.

Which is all very confusing. If anyone wants to incorporate this into the main article feel free. Moebius999 (talk) 15:42, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

≡≡ Azoth references to Crowley≡≡ In the material, it is a fake quote and source. The threefold alphabetic statements atributed to Crowley is in fact coined by (pseudo)Basil Valentine in the work L'Azoth, ou le moyen de faire l'Or cache des Philosophes.(MDCLX)is mean 1660: A. Crowley, despite his sissy adorers, nor is born, yet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.102.79.199 (talk) 11:16, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality/tone issues.[edit]

This article treats an obviously mystical/supernatural subject as if it were fact. In Life and the Universe especially, beliefs about Azoth are not regarded as beliefs, but stated directly as truths. (See second paragraph). This article also makes excessive use of quotation. In Texts has vastly more quoted material than unquoted material. Without any explanation or summarization, this also contributes to the feeling that this article is written by those who believe in Azoth, rather than a neutral historian.

Syncronicity leads to Azoth[edit]

Delusions aside and criticism discounted, one cannot deny truth. In my experience Commitment to my Faith embraces the situation where i seek to find a name befitting my endeavours.I encompass the entire Alephbet, A to Z. And of the numerial to be complete.1,2,3. Numbers are not words but interact silently. Words for One Two Three ? AZOTH is Pi numerically ( A - Z , 3.14....... etc ) AZOTH is all words in infinate possibilities entangled in numerals also. Together AZOTH is Random manipulation with an Infinite possibility. I seeked a unique name to individualise myself. My essence in being called for a new identity precisely depicting of who i am.A simple name instead of Stan. My syncronistic reflections entomb the letters of words. From A to Z i script these on my Paper. AZ 3.14 (pi) To me epitimises the Uniqueness and Flurry of numbers describing perfection. One Two Three. My ponder was to ascertain how best to word the numbers into letters to find this new name i was going to give myself as Unique and like no other. "O TT, AZOTT"? No, didn't 'sound' right. AZOTH maybe? O for One, T for two and H for three. Yes Azoth! Curious to know if anyword similar or taken i searched Google and to my utmost amazement i found a description.I had never heard or recollect the word Azoth ever. The meaning of Azoth in the pedia says that it is the universal agent that binds all things and non things. The possibilty that this is random coincidence is truly impossible materialistically.. I am everything as i wished to be portrayed and hthe result is conclusive. I am everything for nothing resides within me. I am Azoth, no-name . So no Name i am.2001:8003:400C:2300:FD8B:D031:254D:9B0C (talk) 05:32, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Stan Cesal.[reply]
