baa[edit]

This is a dab page about the TLA BAA, not bleating. Note WP:WINAD. Why on earth do we an dicdef entry to illustrate baa "baa", complete with superfluous picture? Dunc|☺ 17:23, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, With reference to the Google results only 3 of the top 10 entries refer to BAA plc, British Astronomical Association gets two... (on google.com, obviously google.co.uk would be biased toward BAA plc). I do not feel there is a great need to change BAA into a redirect. The number of incoming wikilinks reflects the fact the Wikipedia is stronger in aviation and transport than, say, astronomy or Maldive Islands... /wangi 13:13, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Leave the redirect at BAA and delete BAA (disambiguation). These dab moves are not simply a number counting game. Given the number of uses, it makes sense to have the dab at BAA. Initial Discussion[edit]

Hi there, noticed you were around, I wondered if you could do a favour. For ages BAA has been a dismbig page as there are a number of terms it can refer to. In the last hour User:VodkaJazz moved it to BAA (disambiguation) and made BAA and redirect to BAA plc... Without any discussion.
Can you move things back to how they were please?

Hi there, this page has now been reverted back to its original state as a disambiguation page. There are far too many meanings for "baa" for it to simple redirect to BAA plc - it's not a lot more used than any other entry (if it is even the most used meaning at all).

Before asking fellow editors to revert redirection changes (a tenuous tasks sometimes), you should substantiate your claims. As you can see from the categorized what links here entries below, BAA plc is the predominant meaning given in Wikipedia. While Google may give more meanings to BAA, it is still the top entry. BAA plc is the only non-stub article, it refers to a multi-national company worth billions to which current affairs are many times related. BAA is also its symbol on the LSE.

It's hardly surprising that the incoming links to BAA are mostly intended for BAA plc given the abundance of air and rail etc articles on Wikipedia. Might I suggest you fix them to point to the right place. Likewise Google will be skewed too, I'm not saying that BAA plc isn't the main meaning - it's certainly not the only meaning. The page has been a disambig since the middle of 2004, people typing BAA and wanting BAA plc quickly get to it - it's the top of the list. There's no reason to change things now, especially when you consider what's going to happen the the company - do you think it'll be known by BAA this time next year?
If you think the disambig page needs cleaned-up then clean it up, or tag with disambig-cleanup.
And if you still think BAA needs to be a redirect how about a discussion first on the talk page, or WP:RM. Remember I wouldn't have to have asking fellow editors to revert redirection changes (a tenuous tasks sometimes) if you'd done this in the first place.

Read WP:D. As you said, it's not the only meaning - but it's the primary meaning. Therefore one should not have a general disambiguation page on the BAA page but on the BAA (disambiguation) page like I had done it. In addition, this is the present not the future; and yet, even if it were the future, BAA would still primarily refer to BAA plc or whatever the name would then be. └ VodkaJazz / talk ┐ 20:31, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
