[edit] Extinct?

Ethnologue says, there were 3 to 4 speakers left in 2000. Have they all died, until today? Is the language really extinct? — N-true 18:46, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

  • My understanding is that it is, in fact, extinct. I can try to find verification. In fact, you can try as well. :-) --Ling.Nut 20:28, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Here's some evidence, but still looking. The (authoritative) reference below does not include Babuzah among "fourteen extant Formosan languages":

Zeitoun, Elizabeth & Yu (2005). "The Formosan Language Archive: Linguistic Analysis and Language Processing. (PDF)". Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing 10.2:167-200 --Ling.Nut 20:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC) (undent) Another, this one explicitly listing babuza as extinct. Two mentions by Zeitoun is good enough for me:

Alright. Thank you! :) — N-true 22:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
