There were early contacts between members of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Babis. Austrian Dr Jakob Eduard Polak, from Mořina (now in the Czech republic), and the personal physician of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar,[1] was an eye-witness to the execution of Táhirih and described it as: "I was witness to the execution of Qurret el ayn, who was executed by the war minister and his adjutants; the beautiful woman endured her slow death with superhuman fortitude".
