Not only in cerebellum?[edit]

I stumble upon statements about basket cells in the cortex too, like here: Furthermore, in rat neocortex, FS GABA neurons are composed of at least two different subpopulations that can be distinguished morphologically: basket cells, which provide inhibitory input to the soma, proximal dendrites and spines of pyramidal cells, and chandelier neurons, which target the initial segments of the pyramidal cell axon (Kawaguchi 1993Go, 1995Go; Kawaguchi and Kubota 1993Go). --CopperKettle 13:45, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course basket cells are in the hippocampus too. at least 2 different populations (pyramidal-shaped and non pyramidal shaped). other classifications based of the neurochemical content divide baket cells in PV+, CCk+ or VIP+. --User:Brudda kemist

Please be specific - "fast-spiking" is a bad term, for some cells 4 Hz is fast, whereas it is slow for others. If anyone has numbers with references for the frequency range, it would suit the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.225.87.79 (talk) 11:07, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article Extension[edit]

I plan to overall add more information and cited sources to this article. The overall organization is good, but I would like to add more generalized information and describe this information so that it is more easily understood. For example, I plan to explain more about GABA so people understand its role with regards to basket cells. I also want to add an anatomy and physiology section to explain what exactly the basket cells do. I will then keep the subheadings Cerebellum, Hippocampus, and Cortex and use these divisions to show more specific examples of the overall function of basket cells listed above.
