Merging[edit]

Thie article should be merged with Battle of Spetses, since it concerns the same event (from a different point of view, the latter being more Spetses-oriented and this one more Miaoulis-oriented).--Phso2 (talk) 13:17, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good find. That said, the term "Battle of Spetses" gets no GBook hits other than Wikipedia forks, the article is poorly written and mostly unreferenced. The one referenced sentence based on Greek source would be worth merging here; then the article should be simply redirected here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:21, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Phso2 beat me to it. I'll check over the weekend what exactly the name is in Greek bibliography, because over at the Greek WP they have it at Spetses. BTW, Piotrus, kudos on creating this one and digging up the book, with the best short bio of Miaoulis I've ever seen. Constantine 14:35, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder what exactly means the author of the Miaoulis biography about a corvette destroyed by Kanaris. Doesn't it refer to the subsequent attack in Tenedos? (I try to write an article about naval aspect of the war of independance on the French wp, and I didn't find any reference to an attack by Kanaris in the several accounts of this battle I've met). For the name "Spetses" given to it, it comes probably also from the fact that there is a festival about it on the island ; the battle is described with utter exaggeration in the websites about the festival (they often state the Turkish flagship was destroyed, or even the whole fleet...)--Phso2 (talk) 14:52, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the mention of the burning of the corvette by Kanaris, since it is not mentioned either by Ant. Miaoulis, A. Orlandos, Hadjianargyrou or K. Alexandris in their respective books about the naval operations; it is doubtful the Psarian were even present at this battle; the ship "burned by Kanaris during the retreat" must refer to the attack in Tenedos during the retreat of the Ottoman fleet to the Hellespont.--Phso2 (talk) 17:05, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

There's probably a lot that could be added here from Greek sources. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:33, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mohammed Ali[edit]

Hi can the author be specific as to who Muhammed Ali was ? Was he the governor of Egypt ? According to my sources in 1822, the commander of the Ottoman forces was Derviş Pasha and Muhammed Ali's fleet arrived at Aegean no sooner than 1825. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:26, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The name is cited per the source linked (and the source should be viewable to all). I couldn't figure out who that MA would be; it would be nice to get the name of that beheaded vice admiral too. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 18:39, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
it is this one, no relation to the Governor of Egypt (who was not an admiral).--Phso2 (talk) 20:12, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great find, do you think you could stub the entry here? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 22:16, 3 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK Done, but it will be very short...--Phso2 (talk) 11:55, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. How about using the name Kara Mehmet (as given in tr WP ) instead of Muhammed Ali to avoid confusion ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 20:19, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
