.22 short not listed

[edit]

This gun was available in .22 short in the 1980's. That chambering should be reflected in the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.48.56.191 (talk) 04:37, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference above comment: It was the Beretta model 950B that Taurus briefly manufactured in Brazil in the 1980's. It was a single-action-only predecessor of the 21A which was manufactured in .22 Short and .25 ACP versions. This information may be found in: "Beretta Handguns-The Ultimate Guide" by J.B.Wood, Stoeger Publishing, 2006; and several other sources.

Taurus currently makes a gun similar to the 21A, called the PT-22 (.22 LR caliber) and PT-25 (.25 ACP caliber). It is manufactured in the state of Florida in the U.S.A.. This shares characteristics of the 21A, but none of the parts are interchangable. Many people confuse the Beretta 950, 20, 21A, and Taurus PT model handguns.Bobcat21a (talk) 18:54, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Current version (11-22-2010)

[edit]

Reference current version I saved 11-22-2010: Mr. Trumbull kept reverting to previous version, but today I completed my re-write with references inserted. Most are from "Beretta Handguns-The Ultimate Guide" by J.B.Wood, Stoeger Publishing, 2006. This is well regarded and considered the "Beretta bible" among most Beretta collectors and enthusiasts. Mr. Wood has had full access to Beretta's offices, archives, and factories for his research and writing. He is considered a top authority on firearms in general, and Beretta handguns in particular.

Other information is referenced to Beretta's own factory website, and the 21A page of that website in particular. It is my understanding that Beretta no longer has a printed firearms catalog.

The previous version was riddled with inaccuracies, and nothing was referenced. I feel that by referring to authoritative sources, my version is a great improvement. I also own three Beretta 21A handguns personally, and use them to utilize my Concealed Weapon permit in my country, the U.S.A.. I have naturally sought out any and all information on this handgun, as I depend on it for the possibility of saving my life (or someone else's) someday. Someone may improve on my format or grammar, but I stand by the information itself as absolutely accurate. 18:43, 22 November 2010 (UTC) Bobcat21a (talk) 18:54, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Simple modification?

[edit]

I did the last major edit of this article, and this line is the only significant addition since then. On last line of "Variants" someone has added a description of a modification done by removing the screw from the magazine follower. This may or may not have the desired results of allowing one more round to be inserted and the follower blocking the slide open after the last shot. It is undocumented. I feel it may be a safety hazard. It could cause the gun to jam, it may damage the plastic follower, or other parts of the gun. I challenge its inclusion, and feel it should be removed. I will leave that to the higher moderators. — Preceding comment added by Bobcat21a (talk) 18:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed it as being uncited. In the future, you may be bold and either remove it yourself or place a {{cn}} after something that needs to be cited. Cheers,
