[edit] Old discussion

The majority of this article reads like an advertisment for Beaner's and its franchises. Slimdavey 00:35, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I think I've made this NPOV, but would like a second opinion before removing the POV tag Dancarney 13:34, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Sounds NPOV to me! Good work. Slimdavey 00:35, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

evil empire # 2 just like starbucks I have found that they are poping up everywhere. they when opend ranout of bisness the small coffee houses in the lansing area. i read an artical by the ceo stating that when beaners opend in 95 there where 32 coffee houses in lansing today there are still 32 now half of them are beaners.

[edit] Name change coming: Biggby Coffee

Beaner's announced this week that it will be changing its name to Biggby Coffee, from the "inside out": first its cups, napkins, coffee packages, etc., and ultimately the name of its stores. This addresses a concern that the term "beaner" has a derogatory meaning for many Hispanics. I'm not Hispanic, but where I grew up in Los Angeles the term was definitely derogatory toward Mexican-Americans there, and as a resident of East Lansing I've always been annoyed by the name here since the opening of the very first store on Grand River Ave. near the MSU campus. I think the founders were your typical Midwest parochials or innocents who just didn't know that this was a nasty name; but they've now wised up and are doing the right thing. So I really welcome the change of names. Not to mention, it will help the company to expand its franchise base nationally.--Mack2 16:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

That's asinine. I'd like to think that if there were a soup place named "Crackers" or a horn store called "Honkey's" I'd be able to differentiate between descriptive terms for the product and racist slurs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slimdavey (talkcontribs) 00:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Expansion

I think the company's expansion ambition -- achieving 250 stores by 2010 -- is so unrealistic at this time, that the text needed a brief comment. Only 110 stores are listed on its website as of June 8, 2009. The recession has probably taken a toll on the expansion plans.--Mack2 (talk) 13:22, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Somebody deleted this fact from the article without even commenting on it and I restored it.--Mack2 (talk) 15:24, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
