The Birmingham Brummies[edit]

The re-birth of the Brummies started probably as soon as it ended the last time, some 20 odd years ago, with great persistence from Brian Buck and Brian Bott, and also from the badgering of councilors from these and other fans! One of the other main contributors came in the shape of a website that began to remind people of the glory days gone by, it also began to bring together fans that had the same wish , that is to once again see the Brummies ride again at Perry Barr. the website is http://www.brummiespeedway.co.uk

Teams[edit]

It's maybe not a good idea in the long run to have a separate section for each year. Think what the page would look like in 20 years' time! It might be better to have a list of riders, with their dates following. "Jason Lyons (2007 - 2009)" for example. A 2010 update could be done at the same time, since the actual descriptive text here is rather thin. It could do with expansion, so long of course as it doesn't turn into promotional material! 86.132.142.125 (talk) 11:14, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

Could we have something about the pre-2006 history, please? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 22:16, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Several Birmingham teams and promotions[edit]

I'm going to try to unpick the Birmingham speedway muddle. Speedway operated in Birmingham at three different tracks - Alexander Sports Stadium, Perry Barr Stadium, and Hall Green Greyhound Stadium, with various promotions and team names. Basic details that I have so far are:

  • Alexander Sports Stadium: Open licence in 1928, known as Birmingham Brummies 1946-1957, Open licence in 1960
  • Perry Barr Stadium: known as Birmingham (Perry Barr) in 1929-1930, Birmingham Blues/Brummies 1971-1986, 2006-date
  • Hall Green Greyhound Stadium: Open licence in 1928, known as Birmingham (Hall Green) and nicknamed the Blues 1928-1931, Birmingham Bulldogs 1934-1938

There are at least two separate articles here, although the situation is confused with the names being reused in different eras at different tracks. If anyone could confirm when the Perry Barr team were known as the Blues it would be helpful. Thanks. --Michig (talk) 12:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The section in the 'Sport in Birmingham' article seems very confusing - appearing to state that the Alexander Sports Stadium is now the Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium (I think it's the old Alexander Sports Ground rather than the Alexander Stadium), that the Perry Barr Stadium was demolished in 1984 but that speedway returned to the stadium in 2007 - there's no mention of it ever being demolished (and presumably rebuilt) in the Perry Barr Stadium article.

Re. the above, speedway was also staged at Colebrook Road in 1928, at the NEC (indoor speedway) in the 1980s, and at Bordesley Green from 1984-1986. I can feel a Speedway in Birmingham article coming on... --Michig (talk) 12:44, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
