Neutrality[edit]

The article contains many statements expressing views that are not universally held, and therefore need to be attributed to their proponents in the text, per WP:NPOV. (Example: "Psychoanalysis can be traced back to ancient Egypt.^[1]" and the following claims that Id, ego and super-ego are concepts from Ancient Egyptian religion.) Not encyclopaedic[edit]

This article is unbecoming of wikipedia. There are so many sentences which I find myself reading over and over asking myself, "what is being said here?" and always coming up blank. The capitalization of "W" in "white" and "B" in "black" is hardly neutral, nor is it standard. The spelling of "afrocentric" is mistaken for "africentric". Not to mention the abundance of totally meaningless drivel, such as "African American Psychology" can be traced back to Ancient Egypt in 3200 BC." which, I am sure, it does not take an egyptologist to tell you is ludicrous: there was no such thing as an "African American" at the time, nor is there sufficient written records to allow that assumption to be anything beyond a meaningless and unfounded opinion. Many statements of fact are totally fictitious. As a whole, it is my belief that this article should either be totally rewritten or deleted. Philologick (talk) 10:02, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the "Early history" section, which also struck me as being highly dubious and which was questionably sourced: the article which constitutes its only source runs from p. 172 to 182 of an article in Journal of Black Studies from 1996; despite this, in the citation in this Wikipedia article, it was attributed to "p. 2". Perhaps this means p. 173 (I don't have access to the whole article), but either way, more reputable sources are needed if this article is going to make such dramatic claims.
