Hi there, I just added a few lines of text and a number of images to make the page more visually attractive. While trying to type the history of this wheel arrangement it occurred to me the integration of this article into other ones might be needed to create a cohesive whole. The wheel arrangement articles could certainly be better. Steam ones are getting better, but diesels aren't so good. I'd like to see them pretty much duplicated - both articles on each one, and a big list article for the lot. The first couple of paragraphs of each would be duplicates, or near-duplicates. This gives a readable structure to both articles, whether a reader is looking for comparisons between, or the big picture. I'm a big fan of articles with a narrative structure and, as you say, a "cohesive whole", but that doesn't mean we have to delete or up-merge the narrower articles too.
Don't think about policies, think about readers. Far too many editors focus on administrivia - stuff that "can" be done, because there's a policy somewhere that allows it, but not stuff that "ought" to be done, because it makes a better encyclopedia.
One thing that certainly wants doing is to better explain the Bo-Bo / B'-B'/ B+B differences under the varying identification schemes. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:13, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean to delete op up-merge articles, but the strategic movement of information might be useful. I think we have roughly similar thoughts on this topic, I was just asking to make sure there was no big master plan I would ruin by moving information about.
