No Introduction[edit]

This article is completely without introduction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.183.188.216 (talk) 12:02, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Article Quality[edit]

This whole article is appallingly written. In fact it is nearly unintelligible. Presumably the author does not have a sufficient grasp of the English language to write it properly. Please, would someone who is able to write suitably in English, who also has access to citeable academic sources, re-write it? (I may re-write it in English and delete some of the bizarre and undocumented information; even without citations that would be better.)Factsareinconvenient (talk) 09:15, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Crest brit ceylon.gif[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Crest brit ceylon.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Sri Lanka?[edit]

Ceylon is now Sri Lanka, right? The article should make that clear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.134.52.64 (talk) 06:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Rebelion[edit]

There was an time when Sri Lankans fled the British out of Sri Lanka (ceylon). --Oiler94 (talk) 09:11, 99 April 2008 (UTC)

"Fled the British out of Sri Lanka"? Please translate.

This entire article sorely needs to be re-written in standard English.JohnC (talk) 08:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

The British Raj and the support from the Natives[edit]

Is "mixed breed population" really the term to use in order to discuss the ethnography of the island? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Galorette (talkcontribs) 22:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

list of british monarchs[edit]

I notice that the list of bristish monarchs in that box on the right has included Edwards VIII and George VI in the edit view, but they do not show up. I suspect something is wrong with the box, maybe there is a limit? --Kvasir (talk) 17:24, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Establishment date[edit]

The British conquest of Ceylon began in 1795. They captured Trincomalee on 26 August 1795 and then worked their way up the coast. Jaffna fell on 28 September 1795. On 16 February 1796 the Dutch in Colombo surrendered. This date is generally regarded as the beginning of British rule in Ceylon. Ceylon became a crown colony on 12 October 1798 with its own governor (previously it had been governed from Madras). The Treaty of Amiens, signed on 25 March 1802, formally ceded Ceylon to Britain. If people want to delude themselves that British Ceylon didn't come into existence until 1815, when the Kandyan Convention was signed, let them do so.

(P.S. Blackknight12, you would do well to follow your own advice about going to talk before reverting - it was you who first reverted another editor's contributions, without any explanation.)--obi2canibetalk contr 14:19, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
