Theorem name[edit]

Is there a reason that the order of names is given as Bruck-Chowla-Ryser? Most books in design theory call this the Bruck-Ryser-Chowla theorem, presumably because the important case of projective planes was treated first by Bruck and Ryser, and only later was the theorem extended to all symmetric designs by Chowla and Ryser. Bruck–Chowla–Ryser theorem → Bruck–Ryser–Chowla theorem – The Bruck–Ryser–Chowla theorem is a generalization of the Bruck–Ryser theorem, which is the reason for the ordering of the names. I have never seen the ordering "Bruck–Chowla–Ryser" in any authoritative source. Currently Bruck–Ryser–Chowla theorem redirects to this page. It has a (very short) edit history.
