Hi Tooga, thanks for the reply. It is true that César Santin was born in Brazil, but he is a naturalized Mexican citizen. Santin was born in São José, in Brazil, to verify, click here: http://www.zerozero.pt/jogador.php?id=50243
It is wikipedia's standard that soccer players be represented by their birthplace flag. However, those who are naturalized are represented by their naturalized flag. That is why when you look at Manchester United's page, Owen Hargreaves does not have a Canadian flag (he was born in Canada), but instead he has an English flag (the country whom he plays for). Podolski and Klose, both players of Bayern Munich, are not represented by the Polish flag (both players were born in Poland), but by the country that naturalized them, and whom they consequently play for (Germany, in this case). Since most of Santin's information is in Swedish, it's very difficult to find this kind of information. The only way I can verify him as a Mexican is when Mexico's national team coach calls him up for Mexico's next friendly (in March), in which you will see he represents Mexico, not Brazil. I will change the flag back to Mexico, and as soon as I find a credible source not in Swedish that confirms he is a naturalized Mexican, I will post it along with his biography. Well, if Mexico's national team coach decideds to call him up for the next friendly, we can change it then. Until then his nationality should be Brazilian if a good source doesn't prove otherwise. See this interview on Kalmar's official homepage in Swedish. [1] Santin doesn't even mention Mexico and only talks about Brazil. "24-årige Cesar Santin föddes i staden Porto Alegre i södra Brasilien och just som de flesta brasilianska grabbar har han spelat fotboll så länge han kan minnas." Translated to english: "24 year old Cesar Santin was born in the city of Porto Alegre in southern Brazil and just like most of the Brazilian boys he has played football as long as he can remember." for example. Google searches can be good, but in this case I don't see the point. The Swedish FA are notoriously sloppy when it comes to spelling names of foreign born players and don't repond to e-mails asking them to correct their mistakes. This is a shame since the media see them as arbitrors in spelling questions. No wonder the accentless spelling of his surname has caught on. But the Swedish FA can be wrong. As far as I know the majority is right, and as most websites/media/profiles (etc.) spells the name Santin, this should also be the name of the article. Further is the article name in all other languages also spelled this way. kalaha 22:37, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
