"And here's what's wrong with Wikipedia: (1) this article has the wrong birth year (1920, NOT 1922), (2) the wrong list of nicknames (never "C.V.," but Woody, Wood, or Woodsy, (3) NOT the Chief Designer of Disneyland, as he had nothing to do with design, but the first general manager and vice president, oversee the project, lessees, employment, promotion, and outside sales, (4) the air craft manufacture was located in San Diego, not Texas, (5) he was not born in Texas, rather in Oklahoma, (6) One of the non-Disney theme parks lasted longer than "a few years," as Pleasure Island was open for 10 (1959-1969), and (7) Aside from Freedomland, Wood never really worked as a designer, more as a consultant, salesman, and packager, which sometimes meant he hired designers."

I'm checking this out now... Herostratus 04:11, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • As near as I can tell, "Woody" or some variation was his nickname, and widely used it was; but C.V. also, perhaps in more formal settings. For instance, the building in Lake Havasu City is the "CV Wood Aquatic Center", not the "Woody Wood Aquatic Center" and so forth; also per this site "("C.V.," "Wood," or "Woody," depending on the time of day and mood he was in)", etc.
  • I can't now come up with the citation for his birthdate. I'm sure I saw it somewhere - I didn't just make it up - but if I'm wrong, fine, then 1920. It doesn't say in the article where he was born. (EDIT/Reply: the article uses the phrase "his native Texas," which indicates place of origin.)
  • I know he worked in San Diego but I think he worked in Texas before that.
  • I think 10 years is "a few" for an entity with the cost and hopeful prospects of Pleasure Island; and the others had an even shorter run.
  • As for the rest, fine; fix it. I got most of my information from the locations referenced in the Notes section, but if anyone has better information, that's great, fix away. Herostratus 04:31, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mean to ridicule Herostratus, but it seems that Herostratus simply moved incorrect information from elsewhere on the web to Wiki. From what I can tell, Wiki is pretty much a warehouse of such information--mixing the true with the false, mostly written by people who have no expertise in the fields they write about. And this is why Wiki is as useless as most any blog.

This article still has a great deal of incorrect information.

Again from Englishboy[edit]

Hello, this article suffers from many of the usual Wiki-problems. (1) Date of birth is off by YEARS. (2) Not the chief designer of Disneyland. (3) aircraft manufacturer NOT located in his native Texas. (4) Texas is NOT is native state. (5) Played NO role in the design of Disneyland. (6) Wood did little or no design work on Magic Mountain (in Denver). (7) At least one of these listed amusement parks did in fact last "longer than a few years before closing." Comodore Vanderbilt Wood jr was born in Wood County Oklahoma 12-17-1920. He did work for an aircraft company in San Diego California before going to SRI and then on to Disney as the construction foreman, vice president and general manager for Disneyland.Rhodidium (talk) 01:12, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
