Name of this page and possible merge?

Hi there, I've recently added some info to this page. In my opinion, the term "cardiac enzymes" is not entirely correct, because myoglobin and troponin are not enzymes as far as I know. Other books, like Kumar & Clark's Clinical Medicine and Harrison's principles of internal medicine use the term "cardiac markers" and "cardiac biomarkers" respectively. I find these terms more appropriate, but I didn't want to rename this page right away. What do others think?

Secondly, the information on this page is already partly in myocardial infarction#Myocardial markers. Personally, I find that this page gives a better and more organised overview of the different cardiac enzymes/markers, so maybe it could be merged with myocardial infarction#Myocardial markers by adding the info on this page to the other one? I agree that this is covered better under myocardial infarction. Especially since the markers are only discussed here in the context of MI anyway. The alternative would be to include functional markers, CVD risk markers etc...--Purple 03:30, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

I'd support keeping Cardiac markers as a separate page, and moving most of the content at Myocardial_infarction#Myocardial_markers to this page. --Arcadian 04:15, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

yep that would also make sense, and then there would always be scope to expand it beyond MI and put in new markers.

British heart journal. 27 (4): 520–6. doi:10.1136/hrt.27.4.520. PMC 503341. PMID 14324110. is a 1965 Br Heart J article comparing the then very-novel cardiac biomarkers. In planned MI due to alcohol septal ablation in HOCM, they have found a bunch of potential new markers. Usage of 'peak' in the table?

Are those values given really peak measurements or when the raised levels can be detected after an event? (I know troponin peaks at 3 days, and lasts till day 7, but I am not sure about the rest) Anyone who have passed their medical exams unlike me? Eugeneltc (talk) 23:54, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
