"First" DREAMer[edit]

If, as some people do, we define DREAMer as a formerly undocumented immigrant in America, then both Adriano Espaillat and Gabriela Rosa were DREAMers elected to office in New York. If we use another definition of DREAMer, as someone who came to America as a child who was an undocumented immigrant, then Adriano Espaillat is still one. Cruz is the first person elected to the state legislature who calls herself a DREAMer. Lead[edit]

"former DREAMer" means nothing to me as a non-American. Can it be re-written into something I understand? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:31, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, a blue link to the relevant article is the best approach. Its a both a legal and cultural designation unique to the US. The closest you will get is 'non-citizen given special dispensation to stay in the country'. Which doesnt really condense well. Only in death does duty end (talk) 22:13, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying. Well that writing sucks from my perspective, and DREAMER occurs 4 times in the lead, compared to once in the body. I learned of the subject yesterday, but would it be reasonable to remove the term from the lead, in the body there's room for expansion? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:33, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How about something like "and former undocumented immigrant (known as "DREAMer")" for the first sentence, if it is first sentence material? Again, the topic is new to me. I think it's a problem because the meaning of DREAMer is very counter-intuitive to me and I would guess most non-americans. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:53, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
