Talk:Child abduction in the Children of God

I have edited this page. From what I have read here, the author seems to be making allegations about two incidents. It does not seem that are Family policy but problem cases that occured between indivduals. To blame an entire movement for these alleged incidents and to make outlandish accusations of "increased reports of child abduction" is a gross exaggeration of the facts that have been presented. I have added revelant portions of the Charter.

First of all, I am not the one making any allegations. I am simply reporting the facts and the allegations made by parents, children, courts and law enforcement agencies all over the world.
There are five cases, not two, listed here so far. There many more cases of child abduction in the Family (I don't know the exact number but it is probably in the hundreds). I have only listed a few that have been reported in the media as listing all of them would make this entry too long. In any case, they all follow the same pattern. The reports of child abduction in the Family have steadily increased since the mid-1970s. One of the first was that of the children of Una McManus who were kidnapped by their father and the Children of God after Ms. Mcmanus obtained sole legal custody of them in the Ohio courts. As you know, in 1979, Ms. McManus won a $1 million USD judgement in a civil suit against David Berg and the Children of God. For many years, the standard policy and practice of the Children of God and the Family was to keep all the children when one parent left the group and to accomplish this by any means necessary. If you have any doubts about this, maybe you should read the Mo Letters and other Family publications that detail these policies and practices (assuming you can find any that have not been heavily edited to remove evidence of criminal behaviour and conspiracies). The policies in the Charter you mention (which have now been listed in the article)are relatively recent. However, they were not retroactive and thus, even after the Charter was introduced, many abducted children in the unlawful custody of the Family were not returned to their parents. For example, two of the kidnapped Frouman children were not returned until mid-1997, nearly two years after the introduction of the Charter. One wonders how many other missing and exploited children are still in the unlawful custody of the Family and when the Family will return these children to their parents and lawful guardians and turn in the fugitive members wanted for kidnapping to law enforcement agencies. In any case, these policies are meaningless if they are not enforced and if the leadership of the Family actively assists members to abduct children.Manicmoe 12:49, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Visual impenetrability[edit]

I haven't actually read any of the article because at a glance it is impenetrable. It could benefit greatly by being split into more paragraphs, being split into sections, and more wikification. LizardWizard 04:47, August 22, 2005 (UTC)

MERGER?[edit]

Why is this a separate article from the main Children of God page? It seems that it would logically fit there under "Child Abduction."--Thalia42 09:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed I believe it can be well incorporated into the main Children of God page, there's a bit of work happening on that article and it may be good time to merge them. -- Etcher 05:48, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
