Basilica[edit]

As per these articles in the non-Catholic media, (Basilica has a nice ring to it and (Iconic city church elevated to basilica) in the Guelph Tribune, the church has been declared a Basilica by Pope Francis - there are quotes in the article from Cardinal Thomas Collins and the Bishop of Hamilton. It states 'the church is now a basilica.' Admittedly, the place's own website as not been updated, but I find that parish websites are usually behind the times - sometimes even decades.
