Name

Named used in legislation is 'City of St Albans', so it is the district that has the status of the city. [1] has "[2] The non-metropolitan district of St Albans has the status of a City." Morwen - Talk 10:21, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

The council however calls itself St Albans District Council, although council vehicles, letterhead and website bear the brand St Albans City & District.

This line doesn't make sense. Does the council *call* itself "St Albans District Council"? No, it calls itself by the brand "St Albans City & District". What is its official legislative title? "City of St Albans". So where does the term "St Albans District Council" come from, and is it used at all? DWaterson 13:25, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

You are quite right. The figure in St Albans is incorrect since it refers to St Albans District. The source used for the District also has the ward level data which, anyone who has a few moments to spare can add up to estimate the population for St Albans proper. I wonder if anyone has done that and even noted that a precise figure is unavailable since they were able to use their local knowledge to spot that a couple of wards cover small-ish areas which are not part of the contiguous built up are of St Albans (Sandridge being a case in point, covering the village of Sandridge and part of the Jersey Farm area with St Albans and some empty space in between). • Comment: As an admin, I was going to close this but the proposal is hard to understand. My question is, what is the topic of our article called St Albans? That article says 'St Albans' is a city in Hertfordshire. On St Albans (disambiguation) it says St Albans, main urban area of the City and District of St Albans in southern Hertfordshire, England. So, the DAB page thinks that 'St Albans' is the main urban area of a political unit called 'City and District of St Albans'. But our article on St Albans doesn't say it is a 'main urban area', it just says it is a 'city'. Does this 'city' have a city government, a mayor, etc? Or does *only* the City and District have a government. Also, if 'City and District of St Albans' is something different from the city called 'St Albans', why don't these two things have separate entries on the DAB page? Thanks for any clarification. Economy

We need a better entry than this, which sounds like a promotional leaflet if it isn't actually copied from one: "The City and District of St Albans has a strong local economy, a highly skilled workforce, an excellent location for rail, road and airports and is seen by many employers as a desirable place to be. The District also benefits from the proximity of the University of Hertfordshire, based close by at Hatfield, which is one of the country’s leading business orientated universities." Description of principal economic activities, major employers, types of occupation, description of workforce skills and education, effect of proximity to London in terms of commuting, etc. Pelarmian (talk) 17:57, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
