Continental?[edit]

Should this be here at Hopkins or at Cleveland Hopkins? Also how is Continental Express split between Conc C and D?--Jason McHuff 19:54, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

when was Cleveland hopkins airport annexed by the city of cleveland?[edit]

id like to know when this airport was annexed by cleveland ,ohio? this is the first major city limits change in cleveland since the year 1932. i know that this airport was annexed sometime after 1995 but i dont know what year. 69.208.14.63 (talk) 16:42, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Disambigution or Redirected[edit]

Search of 'CLE' automatically redirects to 'Continuing Legal Education.' SinceCleveland Hopkins International Airport is also and perhaps more predominately known as 'CLE.' a disambiguiation page should be created. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.181.245.209 (talk) 03:20, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Center runway[edit]

Can anyone expand on the new center runway and its use? When is it used, especially since it is so close to the other two. CoolGuy 14:25, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CLE-CDG not happening?[edit]

I've been hearing some stuff lately that Continental Airlines have stopped plans on initiating the CLE-CDG route for next May. Can someone confirm that? Spongefan 20:50, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Emails sent to Continental have shown replies from Continental saying that they have decided not to start the service. NW036 20:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
According to a press release from Continental's website, they will begin seasonal service to CDG as part of their expansion at CLE beginning May 22, 2008. Bucs2004 19:23, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New services[edit]

We cannot state that the new services will be operated by ExpressJet Airlines, because we do not have confirmation of that from either the airline or any official timetable. I have checked OAG timetables, and the new flights are not yet loaded. Therefore, we must list them separately in text, until we have sources which indicate the operating carriers into each city. FCYTravis 04:19, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shanghai[edit]

I don't know if it's right to have the CO Shanghai via Newark flight; it's a 1-stop through flight. Newsworthiness aside, I believe Wikipedia's rules are you don't list a city as a destination unless someone flies there nonstop. crescent22 21:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, the rule is not to list a flight if it's not direct; stops are OK if there's no plane switch. See WP:AIRPORTS. V-train 20:24, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However, per WP:AIRPORTS, I am removing the "via" clause. V-train 20:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will the new flight be direct? Bucs2004 02:15, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It seems so, according to this press release [1]. It says "through-service". V-train 02:22, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, except it is likely Cleveland-Newark-Shanghai will require a plane switch. Observe the example below of Continental's current Beijing service, with Houston service as a through flight. It requires a plane change and is nothing more than the typical "direct" service. The WP:AIRPORTS section is confusing and seems meant to address situations where a carrier is stopping in a foreign country on the way to another destination in that foreign country or a third one. The rule seems to say include direct flights only if you don't have to change planes at the intermediate stop. That will not be the case here, and it does not make sense to include Shanghai but without the "via" since it gives the impression there will be a non-stop flight from Cleveland to Shanghai. crescent22 13:38, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well if that's the case, then under WP:AIRPORTS guidelines it shouldn't be listed as a destination. Beijing is not listed on IAH's page. Was the IAH service promoted the same way the CLE service is? I guess if it was direct then they would have said so instead of this "through" BS. If there's a change of planes, it should not be listed as a destination. V-train 02:32, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am sure whether the Cleveland-Newark-Shanghai flight will require a plane change but you can removed it from the reapective pages. I wouldn't change it just yet.....I would wait for the announcement from CO regarding the flight (if it requires a plane change). Bucs2004 03:42, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WhisperToMe has removed Shanghai from the list of destinations from Cleveland. Bucs2004 02:15, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First Municipal Airport?[edit]

Tucson had a Municipal Airport in 1919 even though it isn't the current Tucson International... it moved in 1927. See [2] [3] This would make Hopkins the oldest continually owned municipal airport, but not the first municipal airport? SportingFlyer (talk) 20:40, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. Hopkins was certainly not the first. See also here and hundreds of other articles... [1] The airfieldhistory.org blog is wrong on this one. I have edited this in the primary entry. Feel free to add "continually owned" if that's correct, with a citation (I don't have that info). 71.136.137.41 (talk) 18:28, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV Dispute: Relationship with CO/UA[edit]

The relationship with CO section of the article is not written from a neutral point of view, but rather is overly pessimistic about Continental's intentions, and engages in pure speculation about how Continental's entry into Star Alliance will affect their operations at CLE. It should be re-written from an NPOV or deleted. Truthdoc2 (talk) 03:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above comment (written two years ago). The majority of the piece is pure commentary; virtually none of it is neutral, nor does it belong in an encyclopedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pns2clt (talkcontribs) 05:24, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

UA's hub status in CLE is a major issue relevant to the overall health and viability of the airport and thus merits its own discussion. The level of detail is appropriate given the nuances of the situation and the lack of a comprehensive overview elsewhere. The section is well sourced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.166.153.65 (talk) 07:43, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To respond to the above comment, yes UA's hub status at CLE is a major issue. I'm not disputing that. I'm saying the article as presently written is not neutral, nor is it fact-based. It needs to be completely re-written. Truthdoc2 (talk) 04:28, 4 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can there still be a NPOV debate about this part of the Cleveland Hopkins page, now that everything that was deemed overly pessimistic has, in fact, come to fruition? At this point I'd say the comments about excessive detail (almost all of which is footnoted) are also a bit off the mark given that there may now be even greater historical interest in what happened to the United/Continental hub and the extent to which it reflects Cleveland's ongoing troubles. The title of the section speaks for itself; those who aren't interested in the issues it addresses can skip over it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.18.77.17 (talk) 17:56, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cleveland Hopkins Airport[edit]

As a former resident of Greater Cleveland (more specifically Berea) and a commericial aviation enthusiast, I found this to be a most interesting article.

However, under "Former Widebody Service" I found 2 errors:

In the early & mid 1970s, United also operated the 747. In the 1970s as well in 1987, American also operated the DC-10.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. (Especially considering the volume of posts you folks receive.)

UPS Service[edit]

I enjoy reading this page from time to time. Being an Air Traffic Controller, I noticed you do not have the scheduled flight of UPS to Rockford, Ill om a B757 listed. It should be included. I am not Wikipedia savvy or I would add it. Thanks

KCLE aircraft accident.[edit]

In 1991, a Ryan DC9 cargo jet crashed on takeoff killing both pilots aboard. The aircraft departed RWY 23L an crashed on the same RWY further down closing the airport. Crash occurred after 12AM. Here is a link to the story: http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19910217-2. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.210.96.65 (talk) 17:09, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Airports Former Destinations Project[edit]

I am currently taking the lead on adding former destinations lists to former hub airports. This information has been decided to be important, especially for airports which have been reduced like CVG or even dehubbed such as PIT, CLE, MEM, ect. I have already experimented and implemented a list on the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport page and it turned out very well, if you would like to see an example. The next step is to expand to other airports, and I am currently looking towards CLE because it should be a much smaller list than some other airports. I have included some sources below to get started and please see Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for an example: http://www.departedflights.com http://www.departedflights.com/COCLEhub.html http://www.departedflights.com/UACLEhub.html http://www.departedflights.com/ALCLEhub.html http://www.departedflights.com/oagintro.html

I am probably not going to get to doing it for all these airports, but here are the resources needed in the meantime. Thanks. Stinger20 (talk) 00:30, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Percent Changes on Statistics[edit]

For years, this article, along with most other airport articles, included the year-over-year percentage change in passenger numbers. It is a helpful way of quickly seeing changes and trends in passenger levels over time. User Blissfield101 deleted this information, and although several editors have attempted to add it back, Blissfield101 continues to delete it, threatening editors with suspension or locking the article. Per WP:REMOVAL, "It is preferable that good-faith additions remain in the article pending consensus". This information should go back into the article unless and until there is a consensus that it is not appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.5.231.250 (talk) 19:51, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:12, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unnecessary carpet detail[edit]

Is there some significance to the excessive detail of when carpet was replaced in each terminal? I feel like I'm missing something...normally I'm a fan of more detail, but this seems absurd. Minkus (talk) 03:08, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Frontier Hub[edit]

CLE is technically considered a Frontier hub. Shouldn’t there be a spot on there for that? Etonni (talk) 22:12, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
