5 or 7 climes?[edit]

The text talks about Ptolemy's seven climes then says "in Europe, Aristotle's system of five zones was more successful" and the next sentence says "This view dominated in medieval Europe". This is thoroughly ambiguous. Is it talking about Ptolemy's seven or Aristotle's five climes?

The reason I ask is that I've just been rereading Sacrobosco's Sphere and he uses Ptolemy's 7 climes and everyone says this was one of the most commonly used university texts in the middle ages. So the 7 clearly got exposure, selective as they are. What's the article trying to say? Chris55 (talk) 16:42, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
