Proposed Cannonball (comics) merge[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was Do Not Merge. NukeofEarl (talk) 03:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article contains very little real-world info, and is little more than a plot dump. Every source is primary. It can easily be merged to List of Marvel Comics characters: C#Cannonball without losing any actual information about the character. I performed this merge boldly, but User:Spidey104 contested it. A previous discussion of mergers like this can be found here. Argento Surfer (talk) 18:34, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: The Cannonball article has problems and needs to be fixed, but drastically reducing its size and merging it into this article is not the way to go, especially when one of those problems is that the article is too large. Spidey104 18:33, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: The Cardiac article can and should be merged; the Cannonball article is probably a case where third-party sources can be found. The article needs a ton of work and probably needs to be rewritten from square one to trim a lot of the plot dump and provide some real world perspective, but I think the notability is there. -Fandraltastic (talk) 18:51, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It might be possible to do something with Cardiac; you never know what sources may be laying around forgotten or may turn up in the future. If that one is merged, it could always be restored at a future date if need be.
As for Cannonball, that character has been in fairly major use for over 30 years, so there has got to be some sources out there somewhere, and I just have to oppose a merge for a character article like that one. Even if it takes years to come up with the sources, I think it should be kept around until that point. Plenty of times now, an article has existed for years without independent sources (or in some case any sources at all) and then suddenly someone comes up with a few, and there you go. If we're at the point where we're not even keeping articles about characters like Cannonball, then we are going to wind up with very few character articles in the long run. BOZ (talk) 19:12, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The rule of thumb I've been using is "Has this character starred in a self-titled (or at least solo) series?" If they have, I figure it's a certainty there's a review of that series out there somewhere. Obviously, that rule has it's faults - it excludes Cannonball but includes Drax the Destroyer. Do you have some additional or replacement criteria I could use going forward? Argento Surfer (talk) 19:16, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't think there is going to be a good rule of thumb that will work perfectly every time, except maybe "When there is room for someone to disagree, have a merge discussion.". I agree that if they have starred in a self-titled/solo series they probably deserve their own article. I think your example of Drax isn't very good because he deserves an article for having multiple adaptations into other media, and I think Cannonball deserves an article of his own for his extensive 30+ year history. I realize Cannonball's article currently relies on primary sources, but I am sure secondary sources can be found. And I have to completely agree with BOZ about leaving almost no articles in existence. No discussion is necessary for merging stub articles, but anything longer should have a discussion before merging. Spidey104 19:49, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per Spidey and BOZ. The article definitely needs improvement, but merging is not a viable option for an article this large. Fortdj33 (talk) 20:39, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I too also agree that Cannonball's page can use some improvement. Rtkat3 (talk) 7:01, April 3 2013 (UTC)

Proposed Cardiac merge[edit]

Argento Surfer has made a merge proposal for Cardiac. I oppose the merge for Cardiac. This page would need some improvement including his recent activity in The Superior Spider-Man. Any objections? Rtkat3 (talk) 7:01, April 3 2013 (UTC)

I think it's obvious that I oppose the merge. Spidey104 01:57, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think we need to merge Cardiac, for what it's worth. There is probably room to develop this character. BOZ (talk) 23:42, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie-27 merge[edit]

I know that when I first restore this article back in January it had no reliable independent sources, but several were subsequently added and I believe that this article now meets the WP:GNG and should be kept and encouraged to grow. Charlie-27 was one of the main characters of the long-running 1990s Guardians of the Galaxy series, as well as a few subsequent series (including a current one). The sources in this article are better than something like 75% of the other superhero articles, and where we can demonstrate that some exist I say that it is likely there are more out there. This article is comparable in shape to Martinex and Starhawk (comics), although the character is not as notable as Yondu due to his film adaptation. So I think this article should be kept intact rather than merged. 65.126.152.254 (talk) 22:30, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it was better sourced than 75% of other superhero articles, but I think that about 80% of Marvel character articles should be merged to this list, including Martinex and Starhawk. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:17, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your keep part 65.126.152.254|65.126.152.254. --Rtkat3 (talk) 18:03, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Century (comics) merge[edit]

I'm proposing that the article on Century be merged into this one. This article has had a Primary Source template message since June 2006. It had one secondary source, but I removed it because it was a WP:USERGENERATED wiki. I've searched for reliable sources that give this character coverage that are independent of Marvel, and as far as I can see they simply do not exist at all, so the topic does not meet WP:GNG. @Oiyarbepsy: you've merged this article before, @Rtkat3: you've unmerged the article because there wasn't consensus for the merge. What are your thoughts on merging this article? Cjhard (talk) 09:35, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article was unmerged because it was done without consensus. Century was a popular character in the Force Works comics and the Iron Man TV series as well as his resurfacing as a member of Wonder Man's Revengers. Most of the characters merged into the big list for Marvel characters would be minor. Did I leave anything out? --Rtkat3 (talk) 14:56, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Rtkat3 Merging is like ordinary edits on Wikipedia, meaning these is no explicit requirement for discussion and consensus unless someone objects. So, Rt, my question for you is did you personally disagree with the merge, or did you un-merge merely because it wasn't discussed? Oiyarbepsy (talk) 17:35, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oiyarbepsy, I had the merge undone because it was done without consensus like a merge discussion or an Article for Deletion like they did the AFDs for Krakoa, Condiment King, and the character page for those in the Skylanders franchise. I also disagreed with it, so I am responding with your question with "both" as the answer. --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:39, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:Rtkat3, I'm interested in learning your reasons why the Century article should remain despite the non-existence of reliable secondary sources. Is there a reason this topic should be an exception to WP:GNG? Cjhard (talk) 13:14, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this is enough to go with my claim, but Century is also the only known representative of the Hodumurians since we haven't seen any more Hodomurians in the comics. What else do we need to make it notable? --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:45, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The notability of the topic has to be real-world notability, rather than in-universe notability. This character being the only known representative of his alien race doesn't make him more notable in the real world. Cjhard (talk) 02:42, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support - a minor character with very little real-world material about him. Given his age, there's unlikely to be any coming in the future. And, FWIW, I don't believe Rtkat3 has ever supported a merge to these lists. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:08, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Clash (comics) merge discussion[edit]

Clash (comics) provides no context for notability outside of the fiction. The one cartoon appearance could easily be worked in here as well. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:38, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I had added Clash when he had appeared in the 2017 Spider-Man TV series and I had to put his information somewhere. Also, he did play a big part in Spider-Man's side of the Civil War II storyline. If you want real world notability, where can we be able to find them? --Rtkat3 (talk) 15:48, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Look for substantial coverage (not passing references) in comic sites like CBR, Newsarama, Comics Alliance, Multiversity, and other sites that have won or been nominated for an Eisner/Harvey. Argento Surfer (talk) 16:58, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have added in some coverage of him from Newsarama and Comic Book Realm, but could not find any other coverage of the other sites you mentioned. --Rtkat3 (talk) 16:29, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge - Only one passing mention in a transcript of a conversation. No indication of notability. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjhard (talkcontribs)

Merge[edit]

Chtylok, Crule, and Cybermancer can be merged here briefly, they do not need to be deleted. 73.168.15.161 (talk) 04:31, 5 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Caiera[edit]

Character does not appear to be sufficiently notable to have her own article, but definitely has in-universe notability. Namenamenamenamename (talk) 22:25, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think Planet Hulk would be a better target. She's really only significant in that storyline. Argento Surfer (talk) 13:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would support that.★Trekker (talk) 08:33, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
