One type of collimator[edit]

I am sorry. This description belongs to a Bucky. A collimator is a set of lead plates, that can be moved in or out in parallel. With another set of plates placed under a corner of 90 degrees it is possible to form rectangles to pass through a radiation beam. Also a light beam is projected through the same rectangle to visualize the invisible radiation . The purpose is to make more than one Photo on the same photoplate. Dear Karn, please tell me how is your opinion about my way of thinking about the bucky-device and a collimator used in hospital radiation for making xray-pictures. I have changed it because the collimator is called the unit that is placed on the radiationtube facing the patient (object). Right in front of the sensitive field where the xrayparticles leave the body is a plate with the parrallel lead stripes, which prevents the random xray particles from reaching the sensitive receptionplate. This is called the Bucky plate. Can you discuss with me about my meaning, please. I have also referred to the german description. The other meaning of a collimator has to to with optical beaming, but has nothing to do with Xray. Do you agree? I will like to read your comment, please. Thanks. Hi, Karn, of course my english is terrible bad, so I need your help. Did you read the describtion in english at http://www.wipo.int/cgi-pct/guest/getbykey5?KEY=04/71303.040826&ELEMENT_SET=DECL ? Maybe you will understand what I meant. I don't see why you reverted my writings. I hoped you would adjust it a little bit, instead of deleting it. Holler-bucky-shield[edit]

Mr. Bucky (german) has invented the shield of parrallel lead stripes, that enables the radiadion of photons coming in line from the direction of the source beam (see the pictures). Mr. Holler (american) invented the movement of the shield in such a way that the radiation was enabled on each spot on the receiving plate. Revert because my english is lousy.[edit]

The scope of this article is too narrow[edit]

This article only describes one (and in my view lesser know) type of "Collimator". It needs to be expanded and re-written to describe all devices called "Collimators".... for example the optical device that sits in the corner of every optics shop/lab. The opening paragraph should probably be reworded along these lines [1]. I will probably take a stab at making this article more inclusive some time soon. Halfblue 14:12, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree--just today, a new type of collimator was announced by Harvard researchers, a "plasmonic collimator" that could replace metal-based and lens-based collimators. [2]. RichardTallent 20:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redundancy[edit]

IMHO this article is quite redundant to collimating lens and, to a lesser degree, collimated light (sorry no time to look up the templates, or even do it myself) -- 790 19:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A Collimator is a well known device and they don't just use lenses [3]. collimating lens seems to be just one specific part of an optical setup (hard to tell because the article is un-refferenced). That article may have an incorrect title since it can also be a mirror. That may make collimating lens a canidate to be redirected here since if it is titled correctly it would just be "Collimator". 69.72.7.98 (talk) 23:30, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The other article, which is collimated light, seems to confine itself to light. This article is mainly other-than-light. In cases such as this, I believe the custom is to use the "main article" template. A second alternative would be as you say everything in one big article - but - the topic may well get larger. WP started as small articles cross-linked. I'd say, keep what there is and add the frills to it. I'm putting in a "main" so you can see what I mean.Dave (talk) 01:40, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deteriorated paragraph[edit]

In the 1st paragraph, instead of saying "narrow" and then limiting the meaning to only redirecting or filtering, instead it should be just said "to make the rays more aligned" or similar.
