[edit] list?

a list of some of these compound fruits would be much appriciated --voodoom 09:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

what about figs?

Yep, figs are compound fruits (multiple fruits, to be precise) as are pineapples, mulberries, and breadfruit. Brambles (such as raspberries) are aggregate fruits, and strawberries, apples, and cashews are accessory fruits. Cedarboy (talk) 00:49, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Merger proposal

I would disagree with the merger proposal. Multiple and aggregate fruits are different, sufficiently so to merit separate entries for each. Otherwise, why not merge all fruit types (drupes, pomes, nuts, etc.) into a single entry: Fruits. Or, why even stop there? Just merge it all into one entry: Plants. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.212.196.152 (talk) 17:00, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

no, an aggregate fruit vs. a compound fruit vs. a multiple fruit all describe different things botanically. please get a copy of esau and jepson in hand before you try redefining things. -mL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.185.18.10 (talk) 19:50, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Aggregate fruit redirects to the compound fruit page: they are a kind of compound fruit and are discussed there. Multiple fruits are also kind of compound fruit, so multiple fruit should redirect to compound fruit. The multiple fruit page should be merged into the compound fruit page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.199.248 (talk) 04:50, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

That's like wanting to merge monkey in with primate, because monkeys are also a kind of primate. Aggregate and multiple fruit are both a form of compound fruit, but are distinct for themselves. There is enough data for each to have its own entry, if only people take the time to add it, just as there's enough info for primate, ape, and monkey all to have their own entries. --Kaz (talk) 18:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree with many of you that multiple fruit and accessory fruit are separate botanically from compound fruit. However, merging them would make a more complete and less stubby page. If all three on their own could be full articles, then I would say don't merge; otherwise I would say yes.Cedarboy (talk) 16:49, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Closing old debate. No merge. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 17:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] (Second merger proposal): Rename as Aggregate fruit

The term "compound fruit" is not used technically, and I would like to suggest once again that it should not be the name of this page. My preference would be to rename and reshape it to be called "Aggregate fruit", rather than to merge with Multiple fruit. Nadiatalent (talk) 17:37, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Since that proposal was not seconded, I've set up a separate page for Aggregate fruit, and reworked this one accordingly. Nadiatalent (talk) 20:52, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
