Disagree with the proposal about merging with sentient systems. Context-aware computing and sentient systems are very rarely used together, in comparison or even in contrast. I would say that context aware is more about sensing the environment and adapting the UI or system functions, and sentient computing is about the AI hard problems.

Article Critique[edit]

The article's lead section is rather weak. The lead section begins by mentioning that context-aware computing is a component of ubiquitous computing, but does not actually describe what differentiates it, how it relates or what it contributes to the field. This article may benefit from changing its name to "situated systems", or at least including this term in the lead section. In recent years, the term "situated computing" has been used to describe context-aware computing. Additionally, the lead section fails to provide a high level overview, and does not offer any insight into why the field is important.

The structure and coverage of the article also needs significant work. The article includes a very brief "history" of the topic, but fails to describe the various core concepts of the field and contributions made to the field by certain disciplines of study, such as social signal processing. The "history" merely describes that the field was conceptualized by various groups in the 90's, but does not describe the context in which the various groups explored the subject or key advances in the history of the field. The statement mentioning Xerox PARC by name especially needs a citation if it is going to name the organization without providing any information about their contribution in the emergence of the field. There are few citations, and most are from 5 to 7 years ago - the paper would benefit from the "boom" of published work in the field within the last 5 years, especially under the label of "situated systems". Overall, there is not much content in this article, and it does not describe the subject other than by providing a definition of it.
