Original research in first person[edit]

I notice that some sections in this article appear to be original research. I am not clear if the author did in fact cite his own published work on this, or not. If it is not published, it cannot be included. If this information is published and the publication is cited and the info included, then the text should not say "my students and I", it should say something like Smith and Jones, 2008 or whatever is the correct knfo. Poorly Researched[edit]

Not sure if being excluded from a book about seaweed counts as being poorly researched. Seaweeds are macro-algae, and so are a completely different subject. The claim may be correct, but thats a poor example of why. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.138.215.229 (talk) 21:30, 23 November 2008 (UTC) Studying coralline algae taxonomy is difficult, you need specialised microscopy equipment. This is especially true for crustose species. So i can see why they avoided them in the book. I wrote the original comment about Corallines being poorly researched. I have studied them for 15 years and published around 40 papers on them, and while I was active there were only a handful of people in the world studying them. As a professional phycologist for nearly 30 years, I cannot think of any phycologist who would exclude corallines when talking about seaweeds. Most seaweed books do contain something about corallines. They are macroscopic red algae that just happen to be calcified, as such they are seaweeds as much as any other macroscopic red algae are. Coralline alga → Coralline algae – I propose renaming this page (over a redirect) from the singular "alga" to the plural "algae". About two years ago, the page was moved in the opposite direction, to its present name, without talk page discussion: [1]. Changing it back would make the page name consistent with existing pages on algae and other subtypes of algae (as well as, for example, bacteria). Sources use both the singular and the plural, but the plural is used more commonly than the singular; this is also reflected in the sources cited on the page. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:51, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
