The phrase "cowboy coffee" needs to be referenced somewhere in the wiki because man I just looked it up to find out what it was and thankfully wikipedia was there for me

settling the grounds

[edit]

The traditional method that I am aware of is to add a dash of cold water to the brew just before consuming. However, I lack an authoritative source. Never heard of using egg shells or an egg, things which I doubt that cowboys would have handy on a trail drive. Wschart (talk) 21:19, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cowboy coffee, improved method

[edit]

This method makes the best cup of coffee I've ever tasted. It is also the simplest, requiring only hot water, a cup and coffee.

I suppose one could do this using a pot, but I like to make my coffee one mug at a time since the best flavor dissipates quickly.

Put the grounds (to taste) in a ceramic cup, add hot (not boiling, at least not at sea level) water. You can stir, or just slosh a bit, pouring the water incrementally. You do not have to wait five minutes, maybe one, then swirl the mug, spilling the coarsest grounds along with some of your brew.

That's it. The finer grounds will settle, leaving the freshest cup of coffee you can imagine, untainted by paper or metal filters, and nothing to clean but the cup.
