I don't get it[edit]

I don't get it... If the identity thief is clever enough to manage to apply for a loan in your name, how hard would it be for him to "unfreeze" your credit history (while pretending that you're asking for this step) first?? And if he does this, the whole "credit freeze" is a worthless way to stop the identity thief, right? Or what am I missing? 192.114.107.4 07:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From what I understand, the credit bureaus issue you a pin that enables you to unlock the account temporarily. It's just another factor of authentication. Unlike SSNs, these pins should be known by only you and the credit bureaus. --Matt 11:58, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

guys -- check the section re: 47 states and DC then lists "two" exceptions -- something's not right with the math... :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bookie7623498 (talkcontribs) 17:46, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just came here to point out the same thing. To clarify Bookie7623498's point, 47+2=49, and there are 50 states in the union. 74.192.42.220 (talk) 05:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looked at the reference and made the change. 74.192.42.220 (talk) 05:28, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Credit freeze for minors?[edit]

How about information on applying for a credit freeze for minors? The information in the article currently assumes an adult is freezing their credit, to reduce risk of identify theft. However, minors are similarly at risk, but the credit bureaus make it very difficult for a minor to apply for a credit freeze, or for an adult to do this for a minor dependent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vlevy (talkcontribs) 17:56, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

International?[edit]

This perhaps needs at last some mention of the systems other countries use. For example, the UK uses Experian and Equifax agencies, so do they have similar freezing actions. And elsewhere...? Jimthing (talk) 16:02, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
