The english translation[edit]
According to their official website, thery translate their name: CROATIAN PEOPLE'S PARTY [1], what can dirrect you to the Wikipedias article of Croatian People's Party-Liberal Democrats, who has no official english name according to their Constitution. I think that this name, although wrong according to their self-identification, is the correct translation based on their political ideology. --Marko Jurcic 12:58, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Name?[edit]
I think "Croatian Popular Party" would be a better translation to distinguish it from other People's Parties whose names are "narodna" in the native form. "Pučka" comes from "puk", which is merely a populist term for the masses, and "pučani" (members of "puk") in Croatian are usually translated as "commoners" in English so the party's name is really something along the lines of "party of commons" or even better "popular party". The latter option is used by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics in their 2000 election report as they refer to Merčep's party as "Croatian Popular Party" in English, and HIDRA uses the same form in their website. Furthermore, the article should be split in two with one article about the historical party active in the early 20th century and the other about merčep's version which was launched in 1997.
