What does 'It was first described by Olof Swartz in 1799' mean with regards to something that has been 'cultivated for thousands of years'?--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 22:24, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

The phrase 'first described' means that the first taxonomic description was published in the scientific literature on that date. Bebofpenge (talk) 02:51, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
