I removed Frankfurt from the destinations list, since - even though KHTY has a representative office there and is obviously planning to open a route to Frankfurt - there are as of June 2006 no KHTY flights to this airport. Travelbird 04:35, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i have to correct myself, I did find KHTY on the Frankfurt Airport website as flying there from Ankara. Travelbird 04:37, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KTHY is a Turkish airline[edit]

In order to allow it to fly to airports outside of the TRNC and Turkey, KTHY is legally registered as a Turkish company, not a Cypriot one. It's legal head office (as stated on tickets etc.) is "Istanbul, Turkey". I'm therefore amending the infobox accordingly (HQ : Istanbul, hub : Ercan. Travelbird 02:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reference[edit]

Hi i just wanted to let you all know that some of the references given in this article are in turkish from turkish newspapers (like charter destinations)

it will be wrong to delete it because these are true details and no lies...Huseyin O. (talk) 12:35, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thanks

I deleted some of the destinations, because they are planned or no longher existing destinations. The current list of sestiantions can be found at http://kthy.net/kthyen/flightdestination.html. Note that KTHY regularly makes announcements of a planned expansion of their network, but many of these never come to pass, so they should be in cluded only when and if the actually take up flights.
Another note on "direct flights". As you will be well aware if you ever booked a "direct flight" these are never non-stop. For a flight to go from A to B without a stop in between it must be advertised as "non-stop" not as "direct". Passportguy (talk) 10:18, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-i can understand the frankfurt situation and i have no problem of you taking it off the list because curerntly there is no flights to there however the contracts are signed and confirmed that flights will begin there... so i can understand it not being on the list yet, i think we should keep it in the notes under the destinations list, that way everyone would know that these flights will commence in the future (2009).

Coming to the issue of direct flights... when we say non-stop we mean between the points from A-B. By saying direct flights i mean the fact of not having to stop over in Turkey, that is a direct flight also called a non stop flight.

Coming to the Bodrum issue, i think we should add that to the charter section because i realised that these flights to Bodrum only commence on Summer season which is why it is not on KTHY's list of destianations. agree?Huseyin O. (talk) 12:35, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with the planned destinations is that KTHY has repeatedly made big announcements on the sxpansion of their network over the years, most of which never come around. They have been planning to expand their network beyond the UK for some time now, but despite repeated announcements, this hasn't happend yet. At the moment this is all speculation. I wouldn't put my money on it. If actual flights do take place, we can add them then.
Re direct flights : If direct flights were to take place, this would be a major, major issue on the island. If you remember the one-off Azerbaijan Air flight a couple of years ago, then you know what I'm talking about. Before there is a settlement in the current Cyprus talks, direct, non-stop flights to non-Turkey destinations are highly unlikely, especially to EU countries. If and when there is a settlement, flight plans will likely be overhaulsed completely and expanded, so we will have to wait and see. Passportguy (talk) 19:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I c agree... we will be better off if we add them when the flights actualy take place... but the fact that charter flights happen through other travel agents will confuse us all because that may mean that they will not put them on theri web site so keep in them on the article would be a good idea... and i believe we should add Bodrum to charter section because they defiantely have flights there in the summer season...i remember them having it on their websites at the time and also at Ercan airports information tv where i went for a holiday in cyprus...Huseyin O. Frankfurt flights[edit]

These flights are a bit of a phantom. Although the KTHY website keeps showing them in their schedule, I have never seen landings listed on the Frankfurt Airport website. Currently the booking engine on the KTHY website does not have Frankfurt as a destination, and even the past summer schedule, http://www.tbcci.org/cyprus_turkish_airlines.php doesn't list Frankfurt. So I somewhat doubt that these flight were ever more than unscheduled charter flights. But maybe someone has a reliable source to show that these flight took/take place ? Passportguy (talk) 10:27, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I double checked this and since both the KTHY booking engine and the Frankfurt flight plan [1] agree that there are no flights (at least not currently in winter 08/09), I will remove Frankfurt from the list of destinations. If flights are taken up (again) in spring/summer, we can add it again. Passportguy (talk) 10:56, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline[edit]

I removed the timeline section of the aricle, some of repeated info already in history most of the rest was not encyclopedic. Anything that needs to be in the article should be in narrative form rather than in a list. Although I would ask that consensus is reached on notability before anything is added back. Thank you. MilborneOne (talk) 17:30, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As User:Robertwilliams2009 objects to my removal as the information was interesting and educational I have asked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airlines for other opinions. MilborneOne (talk) 17:50, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with MilborneOne; most of the stuff in that list is not notable, for example "1996-Fourth Boeing-727-200 purchased". It needs to be rewritten as prose, not as a bulleted list. As is, the history section basically violates Wikipedia:Trivia sections; I'm tagging it as such. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 18:59, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tehran[edit]

KTHY originally advertised Tehran flights for May. However as of today, they are neither listed on the online schedule nor can they be booked on the website. Given the history of KTHY's announcements of new destinations which never came about, this destination should probably be removed until flights acutally start. 13:30, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm taking Tehran off the list as all advertisement for the planned route has been taken off the KTHY website and the destination doesn't appear in the airline's schedule. Looks like this was another case of another planned but not actually inaugurated route. Passportguy (talk) 17:36, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
