Official Title[edit]

Reasons why Dan Miller should be referred to as "Premier" rather than "Acting Premier":

(i) The BC Legislature website lists him as "British Columbia's Premier from August 1999 to February 2000". The word "Acting" does not appear in this reference.

(ii) Shortly after Glen Clark's resignation, Miller informed a press conference that he intended to serve "as Premier", not merely as Acting Premier. I saw this conference. I can remember that he stressed the term.

(iii) Unless I misunderstand, the term "Acting Minister" is given to politicians who are not officially sworn in to office, but hold a position on a temporary or pro tem basis. Unless I'm mis-remembering the details, Miller *was* sworn in as a full Premier.

(iv) Google-searching for "Dan Miller" and "acting Premier" reveals 42 hits. When "duplicates" are taken out, the number is reduced to 16, some of which are Wikipedia-derived. Google-searching for "Dan Miller" "Premier" reveals over 4,000 hits.

If I've misinterpreted the situation, let me know -- but please don't just re-insert the term without providing a reason. Thanks, CJCurrie 20:16, 10 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Well, as I recall it the media constantly refered to him as the "Acting Premier." I believe that was even the headline the day Clark resigned "MILLER TO BECOME ACTING PREMIER" user:J.J.

Propose merge[edit]

I propose that Dan Miller, Daniel Miller, and Danny Miller be merged together into Dan Miller. The last names are identical and the first names are common variants of each other. Lisatwo 19:40, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody named "Daniel Miller" could potentially be known as any of the three names that I propose to merge. If someone were looking for a "Daniel Miller" that happened to be a subject of a Wikipedia article named "Dan Miller (something)" or "Danny Miller", would they be willing to browse through the several variants of this name? About half of the "Dan Miller"s and "Danny Miller"s with their own article seem to be named Daniel. Lisatwo 02:39, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
