Untitled[edit]

Have removed an unsourced claim that the "ford" element in the placename Trafford derives from a viking word for domain. Am not aware of any corresponding Old Norse word, and while there may be a bit of debate about the first element it seems pretty clear that the second is the Anglo-Saxon word "ford", meaning river crossing: http://www.archive.org/stream/remainshistornew42chetuoft/remainshistornew42chetuoft_djvu.txt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.194.100.99 (talk) 00:24, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

d or D[edit]

Why not a large D in the article title, as per De Beaumont-Spain Baronets and De La Rue baronets? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:33, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. Thanks, I fixed it now. Rupert Clayton (talk) 19:12, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear. They've now both been changed. Maybe a central discussion is required? I'm sure it affects more articles than just these three that start with a "de" name Martinevans123 (talk) 19:43, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Background[edit]

The 'Background' section appears to be plagiarised, and if not, it is in a very unreadable format. I have tried to find a copy of Volume 4 of 'A history of the county of Lancaster', but have so far been unsuccessful — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stuart Newmanite (talkcontribs) 01:09, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
