Apparently included in google android sdk a measurement for the gravity on the death star.[edit]

Superlaser?[edit]

I highly doubt it is a superlaser. The sequence showing the destruction of the planet shows no indication that a laser is used. Are there any sources on this? 91.39.119.191 (talk) 10:36, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Since this article is about a fictional superweapon, we have to accept what was said in the movie as a source.Frmorrison (talk) 21:14, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
While you're at it the Emperor specifically refers to it:
"Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station!"
not a spacecraft. 24.79.32.243 (talk) 22:28, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia Globe Logo?[edit]

What? No comments on the similarity of the Wikipedia logo to the second Death Star? --Kevin Cole (talk) 17:19, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

They're both roughly spherical...so is an orange. -- 70.57.75.45 (talk) 22:42, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Circular reference[edit]

The "White house petition" section refers to reference #31 which points to an nbcnews article which gets the quoted facts from centives.net which gets half the information (steel production rates) from the wikipedia "steel" page while the price quote comes from worldsteelprices.com. The section should at the very least reference centives.net (which did the calculation) directly, not the nbs news article that quoted it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DarwinSurvivor (talkcontribs) 00:21, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Incorrectly dubbed space "station"?[edit]

Although the Death Star is referred to as a space station in the movies, it's clearly capable of travelling long distances on its own (see approach on Yavin in A New Hope). Looking at the linked "space station" article, "the lack of major propulsion systems" is what distinguishes a "station" (which is supposed to be stationary...) from other spacecraft. 84.63.49.132 (talk) 10:20, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Since this article is about a fictional superweapon, we have to accept what was said in the movie as a source. The Death Star is called a "space station", also the recent White House petition called it that as well.Frmorrison (talk) 21:14, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Moon size ?[edit]

The in-line citation [1] states that: Applying that steel density to the Death Star's size--the moon-size weapon was reportedly 140 km in diameter.... So, was it approximately the size of the Moon (diameter 3500 km) or just 140 km in diameter ? The Yeti 18:18, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

The Star Wars Wiki [2] has this:
  • Tion: "I don't mean a mere orbital gun platform, Your Majesty. This is a machine of war such as the universe has never known. It's colossal, the size of a class-four moon. And it possesses firepower unequaled in the history of warfare."
  • The first Death Star was 160 kilometers in diameter,[1][2] while the second Death Star was 900 kilometers in diameter.[3]
The second sentence has references to official Star Wars books. --NeilN talk to me 18:38, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Could someone, who has access to the actual Star Wars books cited in the wiki, please update the lead in and add proper in-line citations? The Yeti 19:51, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
I've shifted the "moon-sized" language out of the lede, since it looks like that's a bit misleading in terms of what we commonly think of for something the size of the moon. I've shifted the 140 km figure down into the depiction section. --EEMIV (talk) 14:31, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
