MABUSE/MABUS[edit]

Michel de Nostredame, or simply Nostradamus, who some see as a prophet, cites in his famous quatrains a man (or an entity) who he calls MABUS and who some interpreters say is associated with the AntiChrist.

Couldn't Norbert Jacques' "Mabuse" be based on Nostradamus' Mabus?

Curiously, the characters are very similar. In "Das Testament Des Dr. Mabuse", for instance, Fritz Lang uses the character "Mabuse" in a clear reference to the Nazis and Hitler himself, the latter being seen as the second Antichrist by Nostradamus´ interpreters.

I have watched "Das Testament" recently and got really impressed. The most astonishing scenes of all were those of the fire in the Chemical compound.

They're very similar to the footages of the bombing of german cities in WWII.

P.S.: Another joke of destiny itself: Jan Mabuse, the man the article states the character Mabuse was based upon, was a painter. Something Adolph Hitler intended to be, too, with very negative results...

"Dr. Mabuse was mentioned as a member of Die Zwielichthelden (The Twilight Heroes) in the graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier, by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill. Along with Doctor Caligari and Rotwang, Mabuse will appear as a villain in the third volume, Century, due in 2009."

There are myriad problems with anticipating a reference in a forthcoming book, one is that publishing schedules aren't writ in stone. Volume 3 of this series is being published in three parts, spread over the period 2009 to 2011. I have no idea if Mabuse appears in the 2009 publication, and of course we have no guarantee of his presence in the later chapters. I think all f this anticipatory stuff can be deleted. I also wonder whether a "mention" as a member of "Die Zwielichthelden" merits inclusion. Bustter (talk) 23:20, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
