Musical equipment section[edit]

It says that he acquired his first bass at 16, a 1958 model Fender Precision Bass. If he was born in 1941 then how could he be 16 in 1958? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.78.183.102 (talk) 15:59, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • He would have been 16 for most of 1958, until Nov 24, his birthday, when he turned 17. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 02:14, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But then it reads the bass was a '59 model, so something's wrong here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amnet (talkcontribs) 17:04, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life[edit]

Is this really relevant to have a one line sentence to say his first grandchild was born in that year? so what!Yellowxander (talk) 11:32, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"died in his sleep" is not adequate information[edit]

even regardless of his relatively young age (70), such a statement is meaningless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.172.122.94 (talk) 10:29, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you be more specific? Why is this piece of information inadequate?--GoPTCN 11:04, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Presumably, the cause of his death would be nice to know. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:30, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Additional citations[edit]

The maintenance template at the top of the page asks for additional citations. It would be helpful if someone would list here what needs to be cited and/or add {{citation needed}} in the appropriate places in the article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 15:58, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Practically, the whole article, which is why I added the {{Refimprove}} instead of individual {{citation needed}}s. For example, /* Early life */ is completely unsupported as well as numerous statements in /* Career */, e.g., "Stax became known...", "...were influential", "which featured basslines that to this day serve as a source of inspiration for hip-hop artists". {{says who?}} Much of this would count as Original research unless it can be supported independently. — J.
