BIOGRAPHY=[edit]

Untitled[edit]

For a man as accomplished as Pastor Donnie McClurkin, the article does not reference his accomplishments. It appears that the article was written by someone who did not know the Pastor. WIKIPEDIA claims that it removed the reference to his accomplishments because of a link to Youtube. The link to Youtube was a part of the article prior to having his accomplishments added. Why is so difficult to add this man's accomplishments. I agree it seems like it's pretty sensationalistic, but is someone at Wikipedia the source of it? How does a person get a locked page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.68.128.154 (talk) 22:27, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Early Years[edit]

I think the wording this section makes his story sound like a newspaper article. It's a serious topic. I think it should be worded better, not by me, of course. If someone could get on that, I'd appreciate it. Also, cut back on the details. --VN07 01:40, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

please make specific wording suggestions, it's a bit more constructive. Also, less details?! seems like it's pretty sensationalistic and needs better tone and more details to round out the bio. Benjiboi 18:42, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would advocate that Barack Hussein Obama, homosexual, bisexual, would appear here. Thank You,[[ hopiakuta Please do sign your signature on your message. ~~ Thank You. -]] 23:20, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Issues of the subject's sexuality and a reference to obama's 2007 campaign have been included. Benjiboi 18:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Gay Sex Revelations[edit]

Donnie McClurkin's Ex-Lover has come out and said he had a three year affair with McClurkin during 2001-2004 and while it was going on McClurkin was really at the height of his anti-gay rants. See: http://claycane.blogspot.com/2007/10/exclusive-interview-with-donnie.html 67.169.43.75 11:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting but we need WP:RS before including something like that and then we need to ensure it's presented neutrally per WP:NPOV. Benjiboi 12:43, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting...well, I did a search in Google News and some knockoff blogs posted information but maybe we should wait for some more reliable info. Jgcarter 18:34, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"As a gay man"[edit]

In the article under "Controversy about views on homosexuality", it says "Although he lived for several years as a gay man..." This is not at all verifiable. He may very well be a heterosexual or a bisexual who lived in a homosexual relationship, which doesn't make him "gay". "A gay man" insinuates that he is a homosexual predominantly. This could be, but it's not verifiable. So how would one go about fixing that. "Although claiming to have lived for several years as a gay man"? That sounds like denying he ever had any manner of homosexual relationship. I don't know how to change it, but the phrasing of that first sentence bothers me. (Edengoth 05:16, 14 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

It is verifiable and is something he has testified to and apparently also writes about. I've added a ref as well. He now more generally cages his preaching about how gay men (whom he calls homosexuals) are trapped in sin and need forgiveness and god to cure them. He apparently is now backing off the cure part as even ex-gay groups don't espouse curing being gay as much as not doing any gay sexual things. Benjiboi 09:11, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying he isn't claiming he "was gay". I'm saying it's not verifiable that he was at any point not predominantly heterosexual, just because he had a gay relationship. That's very different. I had a straight relationship, but that doesn't mean I was straight at the time no matter how much I might say "I was straight". Do you see the difference? Was he certifiably, hormonally gay? That's what I'm saying is currently unverifiable.(Edengoth (talk) 21:50, 17 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Understood. What we need though is verifiable sources that he was never gay or similar and then we contrast the two - "although in the past he said he was gay he now professes he never was" or something along those lines. I find it helpful to use direct quotes so wikipedia isn't saying it or deciding something but the person we're quoting is. Benjiboi 22:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good idea. (Edengoth (talk) 22:13, 18 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Removal of information[edit]

Per WP:BLP I have removed information about a statement supposedly made by Mr. McClurkin. It was sourced only to an openly antagonistic organization with no context or reference that would allow verification of the statement. Such a statement, if made, would surely have been reported elsewhere as well. A more reliable source needs to be found before the information should be re-added. If you would like another person with OTRS access to review the ticket that led to this change, please reference ticket 2008010310002092. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shell Kinney (talkcontribs) 11:10, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reinstated information[edit]

I reinstated the mention of the rapes that McClurkin reported enduring as a child. Whatever404 (talk) 23:02, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Songs[edit]

  • Stand (1996)
  • Speak To My Heart (1996)
  • Love will never be (1996)
  • Lost without you (1997)
  • We fall down (1998) (with Kirk Franklin)
  • Love Melodies (1998)
  • We Love You, Lord (2000)
  • Some Day (2001) (with Kirk Franklin)
  • Reward (2007) (with Tye Tribbett, Da' T.R.U.T.H.)
  • Lord I Need You (2009)

These have been removed as possibly misleading. It may help to conform to other singer's bios to see how they may be presented. Are these one's he's notable for? High sales figures? Chart success? Awards? etc. -- Banjeboi 13:24, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Secondary sources[edit]

Are there any sources beyond his own statements regarding the period of his life during which he identified as gay? I'm assuming of course that at one point he identified as gay. But is that a verifiable fact or is it based solely on his own words? Laval (talk) 05:31, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Where's Donnie from?[edit]

I added a "disputed" tag to his place of birth on the article. A quick search on the net brings back:

All sources seem more or less (mostly less) reliable. A definite source for his birthplace would be great. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:32, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
