Deleted sentence[edit]

I have deleted the sentence "This also links with the towns motto, 'Ex Terra Lucem', which means 'out of the ground light'." because it was added to a cited paragraph, but was itself uncited, making nonsense of the citation. If a reference for the edit can be provided, please add it separately, with a citation. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 18:56, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not very wide[edit]

This statue seems like it was squashed. I saved the picture and widened it to double the original, and it still has not "normally wide" head proportions. Worth mentioning? 85.217.42.69 (talk) 11:11, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is what the sculpture actually looks like, so there's nothing wrong with the photo. Amazing, isn't it? --Omnipax (talk) 19:43, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lighting[edit]

The article said "In 2011 Dream received funding from art and culture companies to have Dream lit up and to have a spotlight shining from the top of the head." However, I can find no reference to this (though I would be pleased to be proved wrong), so I have removed the sentence. Isidore (talk) 18:32, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In June 2011, the Dream statue was briefly illuminated at night when 12 lights were installed around its circular base. These were vandalised and destroyed within just a few days. Guardian blog article here: http://www.theguardian.com/uk/the-northerner/2011/jul/19/public-art-vandalised-st-helens

According to the St.Helens Reporter, there were also attempts to steal the underground cables: http://www.sthelensreporter.co.uk/news/local/dream-lighting-project-hit-by-vandals-1-4964407 ...althought there are a couple of errors in this article, one of them being "former Bold colliery miners", which should be "former Sutton Manor colliery miners". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.64.114.19 (talk) 12:21, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trees obscuring sculpture and views[edit]

The Forestry Commission (a sponsor?) has carpeted the slopes of the mound with a thicket of immature trees which, with the exception of a narrow slot where the path reaches the summit, already obscures any view of the landscape from the top. As the trees mature, it will become impossible to see the sculpture for which the site was created from anywhere in the surrounding landscape, except for a head-on view, from which point the sculpture's subject is impossible to discern at a distance. Does anyone know if there is any intention to manage the site so that trees around the summit will be controlled to allow the site to function as intended? If there is, it's overdue. Giant penis?[edit]

No mention here of the fact that it looks like a giant penis? The observation is fairly well documented.
What I can't find, though, is any discussion of whether this is accidental (in which case why didn't anyone notice from the preliminary sketches, or the scale model, or the 3D mock-up, they must have done) or if it is intentional (in which case, is it a matter of the artist flipping the miners, or of the miners flipping the rest of the world)? Anyone know? Swanny18 (talk) 21:52, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It has been suggested by locals it could be better referred to as "Cock of the North" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.136.80.36 (talk) 11:52, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That google search returns 0 results relating to Dream sculpture. Koncorde (talk) 12:19, 28 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements in Jan 2022[edit]

Hi folks -

I've restructured one section into prose from list and made various other minor corrections and improvements. The article lacks reliable sources as it stands. --Omnipax (talk) 19:45, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
