Dinosaur egg binding[edit]

I wonder if any dinosaurs suffered from this, give me a message if there's such a fossil found. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.186.22.193 (talk) 18:05, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Penguin egg binding story[edit]

~I've found two articles of an African penguin in Cape Town, South Africa suffering from egg-binding, here's one:

This case report assesses the role acupuncture played in the rehabilitation therapy of an African penguin with bilateral hind limb paresis and paralysis following egg binding and a caesarean section. Egg binding is the failure of the oviduct to pass the egg down into the cloaca. In avian species the sciatic nerve runs through the middle of the kidney. Swelling of the kidney tissue due to the pressure exerted by the retained egg will cause pressure on the sciatic nerve which may lead to hind limb paresis/paralysis. Acupuncture was used to relieve any muscle, joint or nerve pain and to attempt to stimulate recovery of the sciatic nerve. Acupuncture was incorporated into a fairly intensive physical rehabilitation programme to help the penguin to walk again so that it could be re-introduced back into the sanctuary's captive colony. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.186.6.124 (talk) 23:32, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions and questions[edit]

Does egg binding occur in birds, and do you know the cause? Is there a species that is particularly susceptible to egg binding?

I'd love to know more about egg binding in other species, including birds. I am also wondering where the sources are for the information given? I believe this is a very interesting topic, and a little more detail on the subject, as well as some suggestions for people who might own an egg-bound individual, would be truly enlightening.
