Proposed deletion[edit]

I have proposed this article for deletion as the actress' most notable quality is having a famous father. If not deletion, then perhaps a merge with Mr de Caunes would be in order until she achieves sufficient notability of her own.--Floodwarning 11:12, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the "prod" notice because I think she is notable on the grounds that:
    • She has won various awards. (OK, not Oscar-level, but César-level which is not insignificant)
    • She played one of the principal characters in Mr. Bean's Holiday. (OK, obviously not the lead character, but it was a major film).
When I get around to it I will translate from the French Wikipedia article which has fuller details.

1 principal role in 1 film does not qualify her as sufficiently notable. The actress' name is not widely known (See WP:BIO) so I suggest the "Prod" notice be restored until after "fuller details" have been added, not before, otherwise we'll just be going round in circles. I'm sure Ms de Caunes is a fantastic actress but until she fulfils the criteria for notability (ie done other things of greater substance), she must remain subject to deletion. Use Articles for deletion instead[edit]

I've removed the "prod" notice again. This is because I object to the article being deleted. The "prod" notice states "You may remove this message if you improve the article, or if you otherwise object to deletion of the article for any reason." The notice also says "If this template is removed, it should not be replaced." Essentially, the Proposed deletion procedure should not be used where deletion is opposed.

Floodwarning and Fred FuManchu: I see both of you are relatively new to Wikipedia editing, so you are quite possibly not familiar with two other deletion procedures. These are speedy deletion (essentially for cases where an article is without question unworthy of inclusion in Wikipedia), and Articles for deletion (essentially for cases where there is at least some justification for an article's inclusion).

I would suggest Articles for deletion is more suitable in this case if people still feel it should be deleted. This was the procedure I myself followed in the case of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allison Ferns where Fred FuManchu contributed to the debate.

I also believe this article should stay- her cesar and the "science of sleep" role are sufficient for notability-- besides, when we consider notability of a person in film, shouldn't we be doing so in the global context rather than a strictly english-language one? versen 01:39, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
