NPOV

[edit]

I think this article sounds a bit biased. Sentences such as this one, "It was not until 1994 that most invertebrates were even recognized as being just as vulnerable as other fauna. [emphasis added]", make the article feel like someone is trying to get me to feel that the spiders are important.

“Because of their small size and relatively fast reproductive rate, it is easy to believe that spiders are not as vulnerable to extinction as the well known megafauna. The references mentioned indicate otherwise. Spiders are extremely vulnerable to a wide variety of environmental factors ranging from food abundance to pesticide use to habitat destruction. The reason for each population's decline is very species-specific and cannot be generalized. Due to such complexity, one can only assume that closer attention must be paid to the health of these small arthropods. [emphasis added]”

  1. "easy to believe" — This is leading me to believe that the writer assumes that I am assuming. This makes me start to doubt the paragraph already.
  2. "well known" — This makes it seem like I don't know the spiders but I do know the bigger creatures. I may not know either, or I may be a spider expert.
  3. "references mentioned" — Did they fail to mention other references because those would sway their POV? This is reinforcing my feeling that this article is biased.
  4. "one can only assume…" — This sentence is a conclusion. We cannot have conclusions in NPOV. People must be allowed to weigh the facts and draw their own conclusions.

Please discuss. — OranL (talk) 20:31, 8 May 2008 (UTC) Ask your self why do the spider tend to be so endangered.- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 163.150.29.192 (talk) 23:27, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this sounds too biased. I will fix it. -Iamozy (talk) 19:58, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IUCN Red List

[edit]

IUCN Red List have 36 endangered spider species currently. Isn't it the most established organization that clasifieds endangered species? Why there're only three in the article?

miscellanea

[edit]

Katipo is vulnerable, not endangered. I also suggest to use IUCN instead of other classification methods. I would also include Nothophantes horridus to this list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GS-216.1993 (talkcontribs) 10:29, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
