Article title[edit]

Couldn't this article have a better, more specific title? --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 16:16, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We discussed it here and came to the conclusion that this was the best title and follows other articles about untitled episodes. –anemoneprojectors– 16:43, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Having said that, we felt that something might come up at some point, if there was an award nomination or something like that. All About Soap have given it a nomination for best episode and called it "Billy and the Olympic torch".[1] –anemoneprojectors– 13:05, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the edits which are all correct. The Archive site shows the entertainmentwise link was crawled in 2015 but when accessing it, it attempts to redirect to archive.entertainmentwise.com, which hasn't been crawled and is also dead. Daily Mail and The Sun[edit]

I'm getting annoyed that 100% factual info is being removed from our articles so I'm posting it here (interviews and tv reviews should be excepted from the ban):

  • He explained that he was inspired by Usain Bolt, saying, "I watched a documentary on him [...] and he's inspired me to torch bear. Obviously I won't be going [anywhere] near as fast him!"[1] (just before the bit about pot holes)
  • He practiced the route at least 100 times, using washing line rope instead of the flame, and had cut down on alcohol to prepare.[2] He was worried about sustaining an injury during rehearsals[1] and... (just after the bit about pot holes)
  • His part of the relay was 300 metres long, but he had to run across the set for the next scene.[1] He explained that at one point, there are only 12 or 13 seconds between two of his scenes, so would have to run quickly between sets, saying that producers had been timing him.[2] He said: "What the viewers won't see is the running around that I'm doing off screen. I've got to do sprints all the way through, they're actually timing me, and every day I'm beating my personal best. Because it's all about me getting from one set to another and getting all the words out in the right order and not falling over and not putting the torch out."[1] (end of paragraph that starts "The episode was part of the official torch relay")
  • The majority of the episode was filmed in advance,[1] (replaced with citation needed)
  • Fenwick revealed there were "strict rules about haircuts and all that because of continuity", saying that because of the warm weather when they filmed the pre-recorded section, he and Harold were "quite brown", so said they might have to use fake tan.[1] just before (The live scenes used 19 cameras)
  • A Daily Mail review - because TV reviews SHOULD be acceptable: Jaci Stephen from the Daily Mail questioned the choice of Billy for the torch, saying, "Many people have carried the Olympic torch—sports men and women, entertainers, individuals who have contributed something to their community—so why oh why did Walford choose Billy for the honour? Failed husband, failed father—heck, even failed criminal, it's hard to see how he will manage to do anything with it other than burn down Albert Square."[3] Talking of the live insert, she said, "maybe [it is] just so that Billy can ruin the thing for the whole nation, as opposed to just Walford."[3] (before "Boyd Hilton from Heat said Billy carrying the Olympic...")
  • A Sun review - same reason: Ally Ross from The Sun gave the episode a mixed review, noting several continuity errors when the show went live, including Lola's hair being dyed, Derek Branning's (Jamie Foreman) being washed and longer, Shirley Carter's (Linda Henry) hair being undyed and restyled, and Lola having a spray tan. He commented: "EastEnders goes live and the makeover miracle of Albert Square is born." He said that character Alfie Moon "made the unfortunate transition into his very own Mr Hyde, Shane Richie" and said that the cast were shouting every line so they could be heard over the extras. However, he concluded that he enjoyed the episode more than any other, due to the Olympic occasion, the "used, abused and underrated" Billy being in the limelight, and "the fact that, for seven precious minutes, the arm-folding, door-slamming, crockery-smashing life-suckers actually had a smile on their miserable faces."[4] (first paragraph of "post-broadcast" section)
